I've played since 1e, though I forgot almost all the rules. I think in a few months DnD will have been around for 30 years, gosh... That's a long time for any game.. DnD's starting to become a traditional game like Monopoly, Clue, and even Risk.. :D

If only it got recognized as such by the mainstream public.

I only started playing about 10 years ago, with AD&D 2nd edition, and then I dropped it around the end of high school until 3.0 came out.

It just might.. It's starting to lose the old stigma of being an evil game and more of a geek's game. :D

02-20-04, 02:36 PM D&D is coming up on 30 years as a published game.

in 1972 they played it as The Fantasy Wargame.

edit: it was first published as D&D in 1974.

ADnD came out with the release of the Monster Manual in 1977. followed by the Player's Handbook in 1978. and the Dungeon Master's Guide in 1979. quickly revised.

Basic D&D was also release in late 1977. the 2edD&D...quickly revised and released as 3edD&D in 1978. and revised again and again and again...it remained in production into the 2edADnD days.

1edADnD, as it is commonly called, survived in print until 1989 with the release of 2edADnD.

2edADnD survived in print until the release of 3ed in 2000. it went thru some revisions also.

02-21-04, 02:45 AM I started in 1984. I started as a gamemaster. I used to run the games for my two younger brothers, and the two little boys next door that I babysat for. So I guess in the height of it being evil, I was corrupting little kids. In fact, I first heard of DnD because of some kids on the news fighting in the sewers or something like that. Its why I asked my parents for the game. It sounded cool!

02-23-04, 05:09 PM I used to have this poster in my bedroom when I was a teen. It had all sorts of famous things that came out on certain dates. Kind of like a big calender. I remember it listed DnD as being "born" on April 14th , sometime in the early 70s(I couldn't remember if it was 72 or 75). I remember the April 14th as that is my birthday.
