I made an off-hand mention of practising Tae Kwon Do in another thread, and was frankly astonished by the number of boardies who also claimed to. Post here if you play D&D and practise Tae Kwon Do, or know someone who does- and, if you have a tentative explanation for this somewhat bizzare phenomenon, that would be nice too.

OK, I don't practice TKD now but have done on and off during 1990-1997. Wish there were more hours in the day, it is a great art!

I know a guy who plays and does 4 or 5 martial arts including TKD.
Myself - I'd rather swim (Suie-jutsu anyone?)

TKD IS one of the more common MA forms in the USA, so it is probable that you will find a few in any group. When you post something it attracks those with a similar interest, so you get a definite overpopulation on a single thread.

I agree with that statement. When I was younger, I trained for short time under a fellow named Tracey Cook, who apparently was something of an infamous character in TKD circles. My gaming friend, who is older than I, also has some extensive experience with TKD.

I have never met a single individual, gamer or otherwise, who practiced Tae Kwon Do. I have known several, however, myself included, who studied Kung Fu and/or Tai Chi.

I have a group of about 12 players. I'd say at least 9 of them have participated in some form of martial arts in their lives, and there are 5 that I know have been in Tae Kwon Do.

One of them, currently, is a Wing Chun Kung Fu instrcutor. It's amazing just how potent that art form is.

I practice TKD. I have one other who has achieved his Black Belt. I don't play with anyone else, but at least 2 of my instructors play DND.

I don't practice TKD but I don't think its all that bizarre of a coincidence. There are millions of people that play D&D. There are millions of people that practice TKD. It's no surprise that that there is overlap.

I recall that when we did a pool over at another RPG-board, the percentage who had or were practising some sort of Martial Arts was astonishingly high compared to the average of the population.
Then someone pointed out that (1) most gamers men; (2) it is much more common for men to practice martial arts.

Still, was much more common than the norm even when compared to men only.

I just started up with Tae Kwon Do not too long ago. And I know another gamer who does some Martial Arts as well, but I forget which.

Sorry, but this has nothing to do with D&D.
