Your weapon has cancer and it has to undergo Chemotherapy to live.

Chemotherapy is a Psionic Power that's in the XPH.

yeah, but remember you can use meta-psionic feats to decrease the chance of the cancer coming back.

So what would it do to my Character if i use the Weapon?

Probably nothing - unless it's vampire cancer.

I'd think that a Black Glow on a weapon is the opposite of a white glow. Instead of shedding a white light of it's own, it absorbs the light nearby, making it seem to shed darkness. A white-glowing weapon and a black-glowing one held close together will theoretically look normal weapons where their glows meet. Just like a red- and a blue-glowing pair will look purple.

Depending on the strength of the Black Glow, your character will :
a. ... look cool and dangerous, unless it wears funny clothing, or
b. ... not be able to see as long as he 's in the glow-radius of the weapon.

I 'm not sure if the darkness is considered magical or not (for determining wheter a character with dark-vision is hindered by it), since it's actually a natural absence by light generated by a magical light-absorbing source, if you're still folowing me.

I'll proceed my researching.

Nevertheless, this doesn't mean that your weapon hasn't perhaps catched cancer somewhere and needs a chemo; glows and cancers can exist simultaneously. If you're not sure place the weapon in a prepped timeless stasis-field until you are given decisive answers.

But seriously, where did you read it? If you DM described a weapon as having a black glow it's probably just a gloomy, black-hazed weapon. (If it's something new from Dragon Magazine don't bother to answer, that ain't my terrain.)

Hello i was just wondering what is a Black Glow on a Weapon? Its a "If your DM wanted you to know what it was, he would have told you. If I was your DM and found out you were doing this when I went out of my way to try and give you a little mystery and atmosphere, I would be very upset with you" enchantment.

The DM did not tell me what it is and when i asked him he told me it ment Nothing. But as im looking around it seems it does Something. When i asked the DM again he said i can look it up but probley wont find it.

Even if you do find it, your character shouldn't know. Keep it a mystery. He'll either get tired of having to take care of the effects, tell you, and then you'll have to add it to your damage yourself; or he'll be using it as a plot device that you'll understand eventually. Only time will tell, and your character shouldn't know until the appropriate time.

Or cast identify a couple times.

You assume a lot. Dont assume. You know what happens when you assume right...? It almost as bad as accusing an honestly curious person of cheating.

You know Edy is right. The DM probly has something really special planned for that weapon and just does not want to tell you. Bet you anything the weapon does something specific that the DM just planted into it. It sounds like something he designed and there won't be any way to find out short of taking the ride.

You should definitely hit your weapon with a Remove Disease or two to get rid of that cancer. When your Heavy Flail's got cancer, the world is just less fun in general. The black glow could be due to your sister spilling a purple glowstick on it. She's much to embarassed to tell you, and just kind of assumed that you'd think it was due to some odd weapon disease and blow it off in a few days.

Your weapon could be a Goth. Perhaps you should let it loose on some Romans and see if it can release some of its inborn self-loathing. This all assumes it's a common Visigoth of course. If it's an InVisigoth, it will be much harder to find.

You assume a lot. Dont assume. You know what happens when you assume right...? It almost as bad as accusing an honestly curious person of cheating. Um, he admitted he asked the DM what it was, and the DM wouldn't tell him. He admitted he kept bugging the DM, who sounds like he broke down with a "Look it up all you want, you won't find it, now stop asking me".

I don't think I'm assuming much at all.
I think I'm reading what he wrote, which is "My DM won't tell me what kind of magic the BBEG's sword has, so will you tell me?". Has that kind of metagaming ever had a reason to exist other than to try and find a defense against it? If we tell him its "Blackfire #3" and it does "1d6 fire damage + 1d4 negative energy damage", what do you think would happen? Chances are his character would suddenly develop an interest in fire and negative energy resistance.

If the DM wanted him to know what the enchantments on the sword were, he would have told him. As is, we know that the DM is going out of his way to NOT tell him, which can only mean that the DM does not want him to know exactly what it is. I plan on respecting the DM's wishes. He's just going to have to find out whats going on with the funky sword at the same time his character does. Least he would if I were the only one with any say. Somebody else may come along and tell him what it is, and if/when they do, I'd like to extend my sympathies to his DM for trying to prevent metagaming and keeping a sense of mystery and suspence in his game, and having it fail because one of the players had to run find the cheat book.

HA HA HA, this is the funniest thing I ever seen.

But seriously, back to the topic. They are right, you weapon must have cancer, I have seen this a few times before... I think you should those it before it spreads. Or if it's the blade that is glowing, impute the blade off the handle. . . Stops it from spreading.

SOunds like a DM special. Just let it ride. As long as its not hurting you why worry??

But if the cancer spreads, it might hurt him...
Rumple_Cragstan

01-23-06, 01:34 AM
yeah, it might be one of those Rogue Cancers. You don't even know its there until too late. Before you know it, you're the OP on a thread about playing a character missing some limbs.

If you wear lead gloves though, I think that might help prevent the spread. Pick some up the next time you go into town.

i just wanted to know what the Black Glow Ment. My Sword is really coom. We were playing the Dungeon and when we got out i got this Sword. The DM Said it was a +10 Ever Dancing, Unholy, +6 Dex, Regeneration, and disengrate on it. After about 2 Games later he told me to add Blck Glow on the Paper. The only thing i wanted to know is what black Glow does. The reason he told me to look it up is cause he forgets where he gets the Info from and cant tell me about it.

Prez, you are my hero. I have a really coom sword too. It's a Katana. A +243 Everdancing, Holy, Unholy, Axiomatic, Anarchic, Elemental Burst, Keen, +173.36 to all stats plus Regeneration 342 and it instantly kills anyone who is touched by it. Or looks at it. Or comes near it. Or talks about it. Or thinks about it. Or exists on a plane that is NEAR the plane it is on. Talk about leet.

Sweet gods, tell me this is an epic game...ya know even in an epic game, DAMN that's a buffed sword!

On a side note, he actually sent the player to look up info HE forgot? Did he even give you an idea where he first saw it, or just let the blind man go alone?

Player: Ummmm... yeah. "Black Glow".. says here that I win.
DM: WHAT?!
Player: Yup... I definitely win Dungeons and Dragons.
DM: THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!
Player: It's right here in black and white...
DM: Lemme see that!
Player: NO!... I mean, um, you don't need to take time from the game to look it up yourself do you?...

What a solution. I shall have my players look up thier own weapons stuff from now on.

Or maybe have a vote on the boards to set its powers. What a time saver!!

Leave the poor guy alone for the minute, is it his fault he's caught up in a Monty Haul game?

In response to the ACTUAL QUESTION, Black Glow is not an actual weapon ability. It's probably a flavor device used by your DM to help you better visualize what the weapon is like. All the above responses are sarcastic.

Pardon the general response to your post, people here really are nicer, but you've managed to demonstrate (through what I'm desperately trying to believe is honest mistake) all the signs of a message board troll, and a method of play that a very large number of players (myself included) find distasteful..

fact 1. your weapon is glowing
fact 2. pregnant women are often referred to as 'glowing'
conclusion: your bastard sword is about to give birth to a bunch of little daggers. congratulations, too bad you dunno who the father is :P

If the sword starts demanding "BLOOD AND SOULS FOR MY LORD ARIOCH!!!" you should either:

1) RUN!!!

or

2) Ask if it wants fries with that.

Your choice.
