| Lord_of_Vain11-25-07, 11:54 AM | We were traveling in these cold mountains to kill an ice dragon. It ended up sneaking up on us and breathing its stuff. When my turn came, haste, time stop . Six delayed blasts. I did over 800 damage to it. Heeka heeka |
| BowenSilverclaw198611-25-07, 12:07 PM | Blowing stuff up will always be fun, but how did you cast both Haste and Time Stop in your turn? Bowen |
| Lord_of_Vain11-25-07, 12:09 PM | You can cast two spells if your hasted, nice combination eh? |
| BowenSilverclaw198611-25-07, 12:21 PM | Uhm, no you can't, it doesn't grant you an extra action. Or are you referring to 3.0 Haste? I'm not familiar with that version. Bowen |
| VulcanStormwrath11-25-07, 12:29 PM | 3.0 led to horrific abuse hence toning down in 3.5. With 3.0 haste you could cast 3 spells a round with quicken, which either led to buff monsters or wizards that rendered the rest of the party useless. |
| Lord_of_Vain11-25-07, 12:32 PM | Yea this is the 3.0 haste, definetly better, and probably more broken, then the 3.5. |
| BowenSilverclaw198611-25-07, 12:43 PM | That explains it :P |
| Escef11-25-07, 12:44 PM | Yea this is the 3.0 haste, definetly better, and probably more broken, then the 3.5. That depends on how you define the term "better". More powerful? Without a doubt, 3.0 Haste is more powerful than any version of Haste printed either before or after. Balanced? No, 3.0 Haste was an atrocious monster that needed to be slain. |
| Lord_of_Vain11-25-07, 01:35 PM | Yea it's definetly insane, but a lot of spellcasters are happy with it. :) |
| Someone11-25-07, 02:17 PM | Either this ice dragon (great wyrm white?) takes double damage from fire (rather than 150%), or you rolled a heck of a lot of 4s and 5s on your DBF damages. And this assumes you made all of your spell resistance checks (not too hard, but I'd guess you would lose one out of four), and that the dragon failed all of the reflex saves (again, unless you have a crazy high Int, it would pass over half of them). So, the scenario would more likely be: when the 6 DBFs go off, the dragon's SR stops 1, and it saves on 3 out of the remaining 5. With average damage per die, and counting its fire vulnerability, it should take about 367 damage. |
| Mindolin11-25-07, 03:53 PM | You think that's good? Level 18, fighting Lich Queen of the Githyanki: I teleported in, getting a surprise round, and fired off a split rayed Disintigrate. She passed both saves, taking about 30 damage. For my quickened spell, since we were on the Astral plane, another Split Rayed Disintigrate. This time Maximized (sudden maximize feat). Failed both. She was about 8-10 levels over us, and I took her out easy. And by current rules |
| Lord_of_Vain11-25-07, 04:08 PM | Nice mindolin. And I was level 20, the dragon was just ancient I think, and yes it was weak to fire. My caster check to break SR is supa high. |
| Aloki11-25-07, 04:35 PM | Am I the only one that likes the simplicity (kinda) of a nice low-level game? |
| Escef11-25-07, 04:43 PM | Am I the only one that likes the simplicity (kinda) of a nice low-level game? No. |
| smeagol_lied11-25-07, 04:55 PM | No. Seconded. I like hitting stuff with sticks. In game, of course :shifty: |
| Mindolin11-25-07, 06:02 PM | I, too, enjoy hitting things with sticks, but I also enjoy the high level play where I can do some crazy things. I go for either, but I prefer the High Fantasy that is High Level Play. I know Fantasy can be found in either place, but it's just much more fun to me to be able to fling mighty spells, and not to be at threat of death from a single critical hit by a goblin or hobgoblin. |
| Beholder-Evoker11-25-07, 06:48 PM | Honestly, I find low-level play to be easier mechanics-wise, due to, well, lower levels. At the same time, I beleive higher levels to be easier hook-wise, because players want to do things special to their characters (avenge deaths, slay dragons, take over kingdoms as one of those really cool Necro-Rakasha things...), and thus prefer to look away from the DM for guidance. Or maybe thats just my insane group. |
| Voran11-25-07, 08:02 PM | Um...yay? Timestop+DFB is almost cliche at this point, they may as well make it its own individual spell and cut out the middle-work :P |
| Lord_of_Vain11-25-07, 09:25 PM | Yea it was sweet, the thing was engulfed in this huge fiery explosion, but it was extremely anti-climatic, a little bit stupid. |
