Perhaps this is a very 'newbie' question, but it did raise a lot of dust at the table.

When the DM rolls a 20 on a character under the effect of the Blur spell, does he have to roll for the concealment. On the one hand a couple of players stated that a 20 is ALWAYS a hit. But the other players stated that the 20 always gives a succesfull attack, thus making it necesary to roll for Blur.

Which is rule, or if no rule is specified, which is better?

Even with a natural 20 against a creature with concealment an attack can still miss if the concealment is not beaten. Using Blur as an example, think of the 20 as a perfect strike against the image of the creature when the creature isn't really there.

The concealment granted by invisibility is the same thing and easier to understand. You think you know where the target is and have a perfect strike at that point but the target isn't even there.

Blur gives a character Concealment, which means there's a 20% chance that the attack will fail (after the attack roll):

: Concealment gives the subject of a successful attack a 20% chance that the attacker missed because of the concealment. If the attacker hits, the defender must make a miss chance percentile roll to avoid being struck.

After striking with a natural 20, you should roll a d% to see if the attacker missed because of concealment.

I hope I was helpful :D
