Okay say you have a medium sized character Bob.

Everyone say "HI BOB!"

Let say Bob knows the deflect arrows feat & knows how to use his crossbow.

You need two hands to fire and load a crossbow

In combat Bob fires and loads his crossbow with two hands...no problem so far.

Would you allow Bob to hold his crossbow in one handed and access to his deflect arrows feat? Basically allowing him to switch bewteen holding a crossbow one-handed to two-handed and back again as a free action?

If not what would the be the action length?

Would it provoke an AoO?

What types of crossbow would it apply for?

03-29-04, 11:58 PM I would maybe say that he deflects the arrow w/ the crossbow and thereby either loses his attack that round, or takes an accuracy penalty

03-30-04, 01:44 AM If he's only firing with one hand, he suffers enough of a penalty as it is, so I'd let him deflect arrows.

It only makes sense, he has a hand free...

03-30-04, 09:37 AM The two mechanics are not in conflict.

Deflect arrows does not require a free hand. You can use your shield, your hand, your shoulder, or even a simple dodge. The Feat simply lets you ignore the attack. Whether this means catching the arrow, slapping it aside, or twisting out of its way, it simply doesn't cause you any damage.
