I have noticed that the main focus of this board is and always has been the assorted vows. The vows are powerful and all, but without a DM who understands the nature of the vows and the rping that it requires makes it really tough to play a character with a vow. I have always thought the PrCs from the BoED are what make the book, not the vows. Some of these PrCs are among the most powerful non-specific setting materials I have seen. Among my favorite(and most powerful) of the classes are the Emissary of Barachiel, Wonderworker, Fist of Raziel, Champion of Gwynharwyf, Exalted Arcanist, and Lion of Talisid. I was interested in whether people had any good build ideas that allow for more rp freedom than simply taking the vows. A few examples of builds I think are especially potent are...Marshall2/Paladin4/Emissary of Barachiel10/(the rest is all for flavor); Human Paragon1/Sorceror(or warmage)4/HumanParagon2-3/Exalted Arcanist5/+(whatever else); Cleric or Druid17/Wonderworker3. Wonderworker can be a devastating class because of its bonus spells ability. With a divine caster, you can get an extra 3 9th level spells over 3 levels(just like straight caster), but also 4 spells of any other level you can cast which can give you more 8th level spells than a straight 20th level caster(for fast caster progression classes, this is even more powerful). Combined with divine metamagic this can give you lots to play with. As for the Exalted Arcanist, free metamagic is nice, as well as having a bunch of spells added to your spell list. Emissary of Barachiel is just the super diplomacy guy. Use the marshall's motivate charisma aura to double your cha bonus on diplomacy checks, then use calling. The save for this would be enormous(only works on humanoids, though). What better way to make friends than to walk into town, and use calling on the people in charge. I can't think of any reason why turning someone to LG would hurt your paladin abilities or exalted status. On top of the EoB's abilities, you have turning which allows for divine feats. If you want to be a fighting type on top of the master diplomacy guy, get divine might, or divine metamagic. Lots of usefulness and utilities for all these guys, and no need for entering into vow territory. Any thoughts/ideas for fun, useful, exalted characters without need for all the vows?
