| Sysane04-17-07, 11:34 AM | Some extra adventure material provided by WoTC. Here's the link for those interested: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20070413a |
| Malraux04-17-07, 01:25 PM | I wasn't real impressed with this. On the good side, I like them using the dungeon tiles to make the adventure. Nice maps have their place, but if all I'm gonna do is drop down DTs, I appreciate having the section give me a place to use them. The bad, though is that this doesn't really fit well with EtCR. Another band of werewolves in the same small area seems kinda odd. And the disease thing seemed kinda heavy handed. Plus, I'd rather have had the players section as the web enhancement over this. | Sysane04-17-07, 04:29 PM | I agree in that it admittedly needs some tweaking to better fit the adventure. I'm spinning it that this second group of werewolves were loyal to Valicia and refused to bow down to Strahd after her demise at the hands of the PCs. Strahd, under false pretenses, allowed them to leave in peace and granted them the lands of the Ancient Estate as a sign of good faith. All the while, Strahd is fully aware of the disease that festers within its walls and derives some sort of twisted pleasure in knowing the fate that will befall the unsuspecting lycanthropes. |
| StoneStokes04-18-07, 12:03 AM | I am also not impressed with this web enhancement. I will not be using it. |
| pukunui04-19-07, 08:53 PM | I think the web enhancement is pretty pointless. A proper conclusion for EtCR would've been more welcome. |
| Sysane04-19-07, 11:07 PM | Agreed. That and a bit more info on Chernovog. |
| pukunui04-19-07, 11:23 PM | Agreed. That and a bit more info on Chernovog. Definitely. Because the adventure allows for the possibility that the witches are able to summon Chernovog into Barovia, but it never goes into any detail about what that means ... :P EtCR is an excellent adventure, but it's incomplete. Giving us a useless "sidequest" (which, I'd like to add, is an unnecessarily large file for such crappy quality) is almost insulting. This + no errata for almost a year + the revocation of various third-party licenses really makes me wonder what WotC is thinking ... Have they gone :looloo: or are they up to something? :plotting: :evillaugh  |
| Sysane04-20-07, 10:23 AM | I ended up running an abridged version of this my last session of EtCR. I took some liberties in altering it in order for it to better fit the adventure. My players seemed to have enjoyed it. |
| Yak of Darkness04-30-07, 08:01 PM | In play (took about one and a half sessions to get through all the way), it wasn't so bad. Some of the fights seemed unnecessarily harsh (for a completely-unrelated-to-Strahd side quest, at least), especially the fire elemental (Ashlyn finally bit it) and the assassin vines (what with those things being advanced to huge size and having improved grab and constrict, it could have easily been a TPK on a completely pointless encounter). On the other hand, the killoren paladin of freedom gained a new mortal enemy in the rakshasa (both over being used by the fiend and his taking the form of another fey creature to do it), and the party managed an amazing feat of diplomacy against the otyughs, sending them on their way to Valicia. It wasn't a well-designed side-quest at all, but the hooks have promised to lead to interesting things later. A net positive. |
