I went to my local book store and while I looked threw the DnD books I saw what I thought was the new book. Arcana Unearthed I was excited about it cause I didn’t think it would be out for a while. So I bought the book and went home. It wasn’t until I got home and looked at the wizards website till I noticed my error. I got Arcana Unearthed (http://www.montecook.com/AU.html) not Unearthed Arcana (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/881560000)

So wizards, I one question. WHY?!?!? I’m glad I bought the book and it I think it was nicely written and I will still get Unearthed Arcana by why did you give the book such a close name? I know the cover Is different and so is the format of the book but jeez its still easy to get them mixed.

Arcana Unearthed is not a WoTC publication, but the work of Monte Cook's Malhavoc Press and Published by White Wolf. The name choice was probably made for the exact reason you bought it. To draw in 2ed and older players who are familiar with Unearthed Arcana and who might been interested in it or to trick (harsh word, but possibly true) people into buy it because they though it was Unearthed Arcana.

Monte "left" WotC recently enough to know that Unearthed Arcana was going to be released.

The title of his book (an "alternate Player's Handbook") is him thumbing his nose at WotC, and the most childish decision he has made thus far. (And he's made plenty of those!)

I'm usually lenient on Monte (beyond that utter crap that is the supposed Mature books), but I must agree with Seeker on this one.

Warning: This is all hearsay.

The story I heard, actually, is that Monte did not know of the book WotC was publishing. And, in fact, Monte had to get permission to use the title. Whether WotC knew they were going to publish that title when they gave permission is anybody's conjecture, certainly.

Monte has replied to this and its been confirmed by WotC that he requested permission to use the name before UA was scheduled and it was approved.

WotC might have regretted it afterwards, but they did OK it.

WotC then made the decision to make a PHB varient of their own rightfully calling it Unearthed Arcana.

Zherog is absolutely correct.

Perhaps Nestro and Seeker might want to be more careful in the future.

So I was wrong. I didn't have all of the facts. It happens.
