| SupercrazyDM12-06-06, 08:14 PM | I am currently faced with a group issue nobody wants to join my Dungeons and Dragons group or let me in theirs. It's my own fault really i have so many books they just can't deal with it. My main problem right now is that i want to my a sorcceror but my friends won't let me use my Spell Comendium book. I said that it has no new rules only new spells and domains. I also was only going to use a few spells from the book and not every spell i can get. Can you plz help me convince my friends.:) |
| SirCaran12-06-06, 08:26 PM | umm... buy your friends the SC for Christmas. no, seriously, if they don't want you to use the book, don't use it. tough it up. Personally I go by the rule if the DM dosn't have it you can't use it, unless they say otherwise. if you want to use supplements you should DM yourself. |

Then you say it's because you want to play a sorc augmented with rules from Spell Compendium, which implies that people WOULD let you join if not for that. Furthermore, that's one book. But what does that have to do with nobody wanting to join your game? Color me confused. And you're the one who posted about the arsonist thief nicking D&D fiction, aren't you? |
| Seeker9512-06-06, 08:56 PM | Sir Caran has steered you well. Play without the Compendium. If you find that to be difficult, then chances are it is not the Compendium that is getting in the way of folks letting you play in their groups. |

| MrPiskie12-08-06, 08:30 PM | I can tell you from experience that too many books can impact a game detrimentally. Keeping track of all the rules is difficult, different sources give incompatable, broken, or even contradictory rules (although this is less of an issue in 3.x than in 2e), and it hurts the spine to carry all the books around. And after all, just because you have a book doesn't mean you have to use it every campaign. In the mean time, if your heart is really set on using stuff from the Spell Compendium, it may help things if you offer to lend the book to the DM for a while. Many DMs rule that players cannot use material from sources that they themselves do not have access to. If you gave him a chance to look it over at his leisure, it might reduce his apprehension about using it. |
