Hi guys. I happened to get myself a fat lump of cash for Christmas and I was thinking of devoting a portion of it to my library of dnd books which at the moment is pretty small.

Right now I have:
phb
Phb 2
Magic of Incarnum
Forgotten Realms campaign setting
Complete Arcane

I was thinking of picking up something to help me make a martial character because I have up to the moment played nothing but casters of some sort. I have heard the tome of battle is good if anyone can recommend some other books that would be good and explain why you like them. Also I would like to avoid xph for the time being as another member of our group is considering buying that.

Expanded Psionics Handbook is *ALWAYS* a good buy.

Honestly though, I would suggest Eberron material. The Eberron Campaign Setting, Players Guide to Eberron, Dragonmarked, etc.

Yes, ToB is AWESOME. Very good system and cool material. That is my suggestion

I also liked the complete [...] series, though Complete psionic was definitely the weakest link

The tome of battle brings alot of good stuff for melee, also the complete warrior isn't bad for the same thing. There are a couple good Prestige classes and feats in the complete warrior and alot about running warriors(the base classes aren't anything to write home about). The tome of battle base classes are like supernatural warriors, its a good book if you don't like the existing warrior classes it spices things up quite a bit.

Need a DMG? Very handy, especially since it has the tables for starting characters at level 2+

I suggest the Spell Compendium. It has great spells for all spellcasters. Your whole party and most of your characters will benefit from it. It's the only book beside my PHB that I always have with me.

The complete series is also great (except complete psionic) Complete mage is one of my favorite book ever... if you have a wizard/sorcerer, it's a must. The new PrCs are great (it even features some PrCs for warlocks) and the new feats are really creative and interesting. This book would complete your complete arcane very well.

The complete warrior is the most well rounded "complete series book" it has great feats and good PrCs and most characters that fight in melee will benefit from it.

So my top 3: Spell compendium, Complete mage, Complete warrior

I'm tossing in another vote for Tome of Battle, Or a Complete book of your choice. ( I like adventurer, But then again I tend to play lots of skillmonkeys.)

Spell Compendieum is also really good if you play lots of casters and don't mind sorting through like 500 spells to select yours.

I would suggest Complete Warrior because it describes valuable prestige classes (like dervish, drunken master, eye of gruumsh, kensai, order of the bow initiate) and many many feats (many of them appeared in sword & fist, but now corrected). It is easy to use it...

Tome of battle describes a whole new system of combat, with the help of 3 new classes. It appears to be that they are warriors with maneuvers. The maneuvers are almost like spells to mages. It is a book that is difficult to introduce it in your game, just like EPH and magic of incarnum...

As others have offered you can go with the Tome of Battle or the Complete Warrior. Both are good buys.

As an alternative also look at the Complete Adventurer or wait and check out the Complete Scoundrel.

I didn't like Tome of Battle.
The new combat rules it introduced were needlessly complicated, and don't really add anything to the game.

I think the XPH is a must have...

Since a lot of these books aren't new you might find them used online or even in a local gaming store. Make your gaming dollar go farther...

As interesting a book as i have found is Tome of Magic. it opened up three new areas of magic and each of them interesting and unique in thier own way.

you should round out your core books though if you ever intend to run your own games pick up a DMG and a MM then work on your collection of accessories.

other books i like are
complete warrior
complete adventurer
complete divine

I agree with the aforementioned Spell Compendium it has been an invaluable tool for my spell casting players.

some non WOTC products that i suggest would be
Relics and Rituals
Relics and Rituals II

because they lend to the darker side of roleplaying.

But anyway you should look at the style of play you want and aim for it with the books you buy. unlike me who indescrimanately buys any D20 books I see

Judging from the books you have, I am assuming that you are a player. I would go with Complete Adventurer. You might as well build on the series you have already started. The environment and races books are handy, but are geared more towards DMs. You might enjoy getting a DMG and learning to be a DM if you already have a campaign setting to work with.

I really like The Tome of Battle, and the new system with various maneuevers isnīt particularily complicated in my opinion. It makes melee combat much more interesting and varied thanks to the fact that you now have a wider array of options.

Tome of Battle is an amazing book. Definitly makes melee characters more enjoyable.
