A character of mine (3rd level) found a pair of boots that turned out to be Boots of Dancing. Of course I didn't know until we got into combat. Combat ended but we weren't sure if the boots would stop dancing afterward. I thought about following the spell description and going with it's duration but I wasn't sure. Anybody know because it might mean the life of a character. Also is there anyway to identify cursed iems, like Identify spell for example or spellcraft?

The boots stop dancing after the stressfull situation ends, however they are still grafted onto the feet and cannot be removed. If you read the identify spell it says you have to use the item normaly such as putting the boots on or ring ect. So even if they figure out what they are their still rather screwed. If you wanna be nice give them a percentile roll to get them off after they identify what they are. I have done this in the past I usully give them 4 points per intelligence point so that would give them a 72% chance of taking them off with 18 intelligence.

Don't houserule anything, just have them go get a remove curse cast by a friendly cleric.

And while roleplaying this out have "Safety Dance", by Men Without Hats playing in the background.

We can dance if we want to
We can leave your friends behind
Cause your friends don't dance
And if they don't dance
Well they're no friends of mine....

The character wearing the Boots Of Dancing will no longer be dancing as that the combat ceased.
In addition to the wiz. spell identify Bards have a very good chance to identify
items. Also N.P.C sages can identify items for a price.Sages can be found
in many of the larger towns and cities.Bards can be found almost anywhere.
Bards can ofttimes be paid in food, drink, lore or stories about you adventures.
Ofcourse the bard will embelish you tales and possible insert him/her self in as the main hero, even if not presant in reality(literary liscence).

Thanks. Although a friend mentioned it would be interesting to have a coffin sitting in a dugeon rattling. When someone opens it a skeleton pops out and starts to dance.
