Scope it out. It's about time we got positive press.

That was a pretty good article..but it lost it's fun when it went to politics at the end..whether I believe in the author's political view or not..that little tiny remark destroyed the whole article for me.

Didn't the Globe run something similar a few months back? Hold on...

<Escef checks old sent email folder>

Yeah, it was back in January. We got gamers in there. :D

Doxxie, are you from the Boston area? Did you find this randomly on the net? Or did someone else send you the link?

Great article :)

...until we realize just how bitter the author was over this past election. *shrug* Doesn't ruin the article for me, but it was both out of place and really inappropriate there. I'll happily email the B. Globe thanking them for the positive press at least.

Yeah, that last line just seems too random.

Take that out, and it's a pretty good piece.

Very good article - and very true.

The political commentary is somewhat out of place but funny regardless. I always thought he had +3 AC, not to hit. :P

Much like videogames, D&D has become mainstream and more importantly: has had an impact.

Great article, from beginning to end. I thought the political comment was a humorous touch as well.

Thanks for the article. That was a great read.

Definitely a good read and all that, but that last line had absolutely no place in the article. He might as well have just put "P.S. Bush sucks." in there, it would've made as much sense.

Well done. That was a good read and I actually thought that last line was a nice touch. Who isnt mentioning Bush in articles like that anyway? ;)

I work in the Boston Area. I saw the article in the early, early edition. (I'm up very early.) What caught my eye wasn't the title, but the pic that was with it. (In the paper, it's a bunch of d20s!)

And yes, the statement is probably sour grapes. Either that or they rejected a previous letter from him on politics.

That piece was very nice, especially since it was an op-ed piece, so the writer talked positively about his experiences with D&D. It's hardly the only good press we've had this year, though. In addition to a small piece in the latest Newsweek, here's a rundown on the press we've seen just since Worldwide D&D Game Day last month:

National
Associated Press Radio (week of 10/24–10/30)
CNN Saturday Morning (10/16)
CNN Headline News (10/16 and 10/17)
CNN.com
MSN National Nine News
MSNBC.com
NPR Marketplace (10/15; transcript on NPR.org)
National Review/Online
Game Informer Magazine

Local
Minneapolis Star Tribune (10/14, 10/20)
KARE-TV/NBC Minneapolis (10/16)
WCCO-TV/CBS Minneapolis (10/16)
WXIA-TV/NBC Atlanta (10/16)
Creative Loafing Magazine (10/18)
Atlanta Journal Constitution (10/16)
Chicago Sun Times (10/15)
KYW-AM Philadelphia (10/16)
The Nashua Telegraph (10/14)
Tri-Valley Herald Oakland (10/6)
Las Vegas Mercury
Daily Collegian

An Associated Press (print) story was picked up by the following newspapers on or around 10/17:
Arizona Daily Star
Boston Globe
Center Times Daily
Charlotte Observer
Chicago Tribune
Concord Monitor
Dallas Morning News
Denver Post
Duluth News Tribune
Houston Chronicle
Kansas City Star
Lexington Herald-Leader
Los Angeles Daily News
Los Times
Miami Herald
Monterey County Herald
Newsday
Olympian
Orlando City Beat
Quad-City Times
San Francisco Examiner
San Jose Mercury News
St. Petersburg Times
Sun Herald
Tallahassee Democrat
Time Argus
Times Union
Times-Picayune
Washington Post
Washington Times
International
The Age (Australia)
7 News (Australia)
Australian IT
Herald Sun (Australia)
The Ottowa Citizen (Canada)
Edmonton Journal (Canada)
The Irish Examiner
Ireland.com

All of this coverage portrayed D&D as a vibrant, growing brand and a positive, social activity!

I'm a huge Bush supporter and I didn't take the comment as a slam to Bush. The author was just trying to bring some levity to the article with some political humor, which also makes a comparison between RL and D&D and may be what he intended for those who maybe don't know a whole lot about D&D. Anyways, Bush has influence in Congress. Duh, every president does. Maybe he should have put a ;) after the last sentance.

Always nice to read an article like this :)
