Breath Weapon Question [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-25-07, 12:56 PM Ok, here's a new one for you.

I am a druid Wildshaper and I need to know something about breath weapon uses. Say I use my breath weapon as a dragon, then have to wait, lets say 3 rounds to use it again, but I use my next turn to wildshape into something different, but something that has a breath weapon, like a cryohydra, do I still wait 2 more rounds or can I go ahead and use that one?

11-25-07, 01:52 PM The RAW (as far as I know) is silent on this, but for the sake of game balance, I'd say keep tracking delay for all BWs that have a "reloading" time.

11-25-07, 02:04 PM I would like to agree with you, but if you think about using an extra use of wildshape just to get back that breath weapon, it seems balanced, since you only have a certain number per day. Also, since its a different form with a different breath weapon, it seems silly that you couldn't use the other.

Any other ideas?

You answered your own question. You have a justification for ruling otherwise. If you are the DM, choose what you deem best. If you aren't, give your DM whatever arguements you feel appropriate and let the decision be made there.

Based on the the two view points here, there really isn't any middle ground.

11-25-07, 02:50 PM There are dragons with 2 different breath weapon and they still have to wait so I say it would still be you no matter if you changed form or not. Still wait 2 more rounds.

11-26-07, 04:43 AM I'd say you shouldn't post the same question over and over and over ...
I also say you should read the rules for Wild Shape, as you would then know that you will not be able to use the breath weapon at all, as it is a supernatural ability.

11-26-07, 09:46 AM Futhermore, Wild Shape only allows you to turn into Animals, not Monsters. At higher levels you can become a Plant creature and an Elemental.

It is clear you can not WS into Dragons, Monsters, Aberrations, etc.

11-26-07, 11:10 AM I guess I should've been more specific, and I know thats my fault. I have read the rules for wildshape, and my character isn't only a druid, its a master of many forms as well, who has also taken the Magical Beast Wildshape feat. The question is for a LVL 30 campaign, and I was just trying to get a few things straightened out. I also have Dragon Wildshape, and both of these feats allow you to grab the supernatural abilties of each form.

Also, sorry about the posts on different boards, but I needed a response and I didn't know which board to post to, so I chose a few.

Anyways, since that should clear things up a bit, if any one else has any adivce, it'd be appreciated!
