Hey all,

I have a number of questions regarding breath weapons in creatures. If this is not the best sub-section of the forum for this post, someone please enlighten me as to a better place to put it. Here's the scenario. I am in the process of creating a monster by using some creative template stacking. I want it to stay legal (I know, I know, it's only a game, why bother right?). Anyway, here's what I have a problem with. I take a base creature, and I apply the Half-Dragon template from the Monster Manual. No problem. Now the creature is half-draconic and has a breath weapon that causes 6d8 damage that can be used once per day. Fine.

Now, I take that half-draconic creature and I apply the Multi-Headed template from Savage Species. The creature now has multiple heads, EACH with a breath weapon of 6d8, usable once per day. All good so far. First question: Do each of the heads function independently? That is to say, can each head use its own breath weapon once per day whenever THAT HEAD feels like it, or is it necessary that all of the creature's heads use their breath weapon once per day, all at the same time?

Next, using the same template, I make the creature Leaurnian. So now, when you cut off a head, two new ones grow back in it's place. With regards to the first question above, how do the new heads behave with regard to breath weapons? If each head is independent, that would mean that the two new heads had not yet had a chance to use their breath weapons and could therefore use them at some point (but only once per day obviously), whereas if the creature's heads all breathe at once, and the creature had already used its breath weapon once that day, the new heads would get NO breath weapon capability for the remainder of that day. What do you all think?

Next, if my creature is say, half-green dragon, it's breath weapon is a cone of acidic gas. Is there a feat that allows a creature with a breath weapon to change the energy type of their breath weapon spontaneously (kind of like Energy Admixture for spellcasters)? If so, does the variability of the breath weapon create an inherent immunity in the creature to that element? For example, a half-green dragon creature breathes acid and is therefore immune to acid. If there is a feat that allows the creature to spontaneously change it's breath weapon to a line of lightning, does it make the creature immune to electricity attacks as well?

So what do y'all think? Any help would be appreciated greatly. I know that I could just create my own set of rules, but I'm quite keen on having this beast be legal. Just because.

Thanks much.
