Broadcasting a D and D game [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-18-05, 03:50 AM I am on the management board of a local college radio station in my home town. I'm also a talk show host. We have about 13 hours of content each day that is totally automated, meaning it is random music from god knows where. There is a fair amount of curiousity about D and D where I live and there are people who assume alot about it but know very little. I'm considering broadcasting an entire D and D gaming session. I a few questions:

1. How likely is one D and D game to represent the entireity of the game and all who play it? In other words, can I really obtain the "average game." I'd like to think that me and my group are somewhat intelligent.

2. How interesting would it be? (it will be totally unedited, from food runs, to the actual game)

3. Is it legal to broadcast Wizard's game content?

04-18-05, 06:04 AM 1. D&D can not ever and I mean this, ever be summarized in a single session. Even if you covered a 10 hour game you'd barely scratch the surface. I've been playing for about 12 years... there are still many things I haven't ever done.

2. It would be hella boring. And I mean that. Aside from a few around these boards. It would be sickeningly stupid. Honestly, this is a bad idea. You'll have just about everyone tuning out and fast. Run that mock session by the Dead Ale Wives that creeps up every now and then if you have to. It is at least entertaining. But D&D is NOT a spectator sport. If you aren't in the thick of it, it isn't very fun.

3. Well I played D&D today, and WOTC did not at any time own my game or the rights to it. That being said, as long as there is not mass amounts of info given out about the game, aside from what is in the SRD, you would be perfectly fine. The open gaming license is a great feature for this sort of thing.

However this is still a god awful idea.

04-18-05, 07:06 AM If you did do something like that, I'd suggest pre-recording it and editing it together.
No-one wants to listen to ten or more minutes of the DM working out carrying capacity.
Also, edit out injokes. They'll fall flat for the listeners.
