Greetings,
Me and my fellow Pc's are planning to build a keep. We got the Landlord feet to get some money. Now I have designed a nice keep for us. costs 278.000. But now my dm says but what about workers? Is there a rule for how many workers I need, and so what are they gonna cost? normaly its 3 gp a month according to the Stronghold Builder's Guidebook. But then I still don't know how many workers I need?

Hey there!

My party and I also have a keep. It's awesome. Think logically about how many workers you'll need. Or, you can do it the unnessicarily expensive way and by the Stronghold Builders Handbook Heres how I did it:

Map out the entire castle, including dimensions and metric usits of materials and everything. Then, decide how many workers would be needed to build that area of the castle within six months. Roughly, you'll need about fifty workers for an average Medieval English style castle.

Do you mean workers to build or worker to maintain? Worker to build is figured into the cost already. Workers to maintain is listed in the book depending on what their role is.

Or you could try to take a keep by force :D. Like i did with my Rogue/ShadowDancer, i rallyed the towns people against the lord of the land and took hes keep for my own. ;). And if you are a kind soule and have the towns people behind you, you can take the title of Lord, And get taxes. :king:

I meant workers to build. So if I do it like to book says its included in the costs of the components, walls, etc.?

I would like to take over a keep by force but the rest of my fellow adventures not. there like oh...no violence this or that.(got two exalted pc's traveling with me)

But thanks everyone.

I would like to take over a keep by force but the rest of my fellow adventures not.Taking a keep by force is more than a few dice rolls. You had better have a really good *reason* to convince the townsfolk to accept it. (Being powerful enough is a very good reason, but there is always someone more powerful.) As DM, I would require the players to spend a lot of time fostering unrest, giving me their reasons / methods. The DC would be rather high, since it is attempting to influence a lot of people. The final DC would depend on how the townsfolk already feel about the ruler. The final check would depend on the reasons the players give me.

Others have already pointed out where you can get build calculation costs.

It is nearby a large city.

Thanks for all of your help

Yes, you dont just storm up to a keep and claim it. i think my charakter and the rest of the party, used several months (in game) to get the people so enraged that they supported the hostile take over.:P

Take the leadership feat and use your followers to build the keep for you, considering the vast amount of time it takes, leaving you to adventure and paying very little out of your pocket and getting a huge moneyback price (with DM permission). Personally i built my keep this way, and most of the heavy lifting was done by polymorphed followers.

buy some golems :D
sure, there expensive, but if you can afford a 278,000 keep, a simple clay or even iron can get your job done in half the time of even twenty workers.
