| cacheek04-09-07, 09:45 PM | Here are the books I'd like to add: Monster Manual IV Epic Handbook DM Guide 2 Player's Guide 2 I have enough money left from buying a bunch of other D&D stuff to buy one maybe two more books. Which one or two would you get? If you had to place them in order of the ones you'd buy 1-4, 4 being the last you'd buy, which would . . . well, you buy? Oh, and why would you get the particular book? Other books you'd suggest? Also, anybody else play with miniatures and know a good site to buy individuals? |
| Zersch04-09-07, 09:49 PM | The books, I don't know. The mini's, try miniaturemarket.com. Seems pretty good. You can D&D minis, other minis, cases, individual minis, etc. |
| Einvaldurinn_mikli04-09-07, 09:52 PM | Player's Handbook II. Get it. The rest is well, bad. |
| AllisterH04-09-07, 09:57 PM | Here are the books I'd like to add: Monster Manual IV Epic Handbook DM Guide 2 Player's Guide 2 ? Only one I would get is PHB II as this is the only book that pretty much everybody in a group will find something useful. MMIV - Wouldn't bother since frankly, just having MMI should be enough and there's nothing essential. Epic Handbook - Totally a waste of money. Look on the SRD for the epic rules and you'll see the book isn't worth the money. DMG2 - Only get this if you are almost always the DM. However, I don't consider it as good/essential as the PHB II |
| cacheek04-09-07, 10:00 PM | Okay, so between the DM Manual 2 and PG 2. I am DMing a good bit as of late. Anything essential? My group likes a lot of variety. |

| Einvaldurinn_mikli04-09-07, 10:38 PM | What's "SRD"? www.d20srd.org Check it out, it can be very handy. |
| Neutronium_Dragon04-09-07, 10:39 PM | I'll also recommend the PHB2 as a worthwhile book to get. In place of the DMG2, you might want to consider acquiring the "Tome of Battle: The Book of Nine Swords" or the "Spell Compendium" if you have a lot of combatants or casters in your group, respectively. The first one, in particular, breathes new life into D&D combat, and I'd place it well above the DMG2 in terms of use to a group. |

So far I have to agree with the masses on this one: PHB2 of the choices you've presented. I have to also recommend the Compendium series, and the Complete series as being generally reliable in terms of quality content. |

| Disciple_of_Juiblex04-10-07, 09:52 AM | Out of Monster Manual IV, Epic Handbook, DM Guide 2, Player's Guide 2. i say that Player's Guide 2 is hands down the best book. If you could only get one other and it has to be one of the three i would say MM4 though its not that great. I personlly dont like epic and the rules can be found online. after that the DM guide when i was browsing threw it dident seemd aimed at new DMs Books that i strongly suggest with your library in mind- Spell compendium Complete Arcane (Complete mage is nice but there is al;ot of stuff in that centered on the warlock which is in Complete Arcane) Tome of battle (A great book and new system for martial characters who get disaponted with barbarian damage vs wizard. some like the book some dont, i suggest browsing it and asking your group if they would like to try it out) |
| Deacon Liadon04-10-07, 10:00 AM | As with everyone else, I'd recommend the PHB II as number one on that list, it's good because it tells you how to play the game rather than what the rules are. If you're thinking about getting DMG II, I would suggest Heroes of Horror instead. It's far better at explaining how to DM a good campaign than the DMG II and contains better information. ELH or MMIV -It's a toss up really. ELH isn't all that good since it assumes a gameplay style which doesn't work at those sort of levels. MMIV has yet more monsters. And you can find monsters in almost any WotC book these days. |
| celtredleg04-10-07, 10:00 AM | The best bet for individual minis is probably Ebay. The rares go for a bit, but the uncommons and commons are cheap. It depends if you just want a few select peices, or hordes of them. Personaly, I try for at least a case of each set. You can get good case discounts but that only helps if you need that many minis. As a DM, there are very few minis I dont use at all. |
| okaynowa04-10-07, 10:05 AM | I would recommend PHBII for its variant class features (especially druidic shapechanging), the spells (especially the Polymorph subschool), and the new base classes. I personally think the book does a good job of picking classes apart, revealing how they work, and offering possible improvements on some of them. Not every part of it will suit your tastes, but I can guarantee that you'll find at least one idea in it that becomes indispensable to you. |
| Crash16904-10-07, 11:58 PM | I recommend: Players Handbook 2 Complete Warrior Complete Arcane Complete Scoundrel Unearthed Arcana Dungeons masters guide 2 is also a great pick for new Dungeon Masters. |
| Novacat04-11-07, 12:51 AM | My suggestions, in order of how highly I suggest them: Expanded Psionics Handbook (If you don't like psionics, you need to be shot) Spell Compendium (Pure spell-slinging goodness) PHB2 (Lots of neat stuff of no particular category) The Complete Series (Looks like you would like Complete Scoundrel, but I recommend all of them) Magic of Incarnum (if awesomeness strikes your fancy) |
| Kouk04-11-07, 04:24 AM | Out of the presented books on your list, PHBII is the best to get. My other recommendations would be the first 4 Complete books: Complete Arcane Complete Warrior Complete Adventurer Complete Divine In that order, unless you have specific interests relating to the content. And the Spell Compendium, if you want tons of new spells (though you shouldn't automatically allow them all in your game). I would rank the Complete Scoundrel the lowest of these suggestions. It has some interesting things, but doesn't seem to add nearly as much as the first 4 complete books. In my opinion it is sort of a Complete Adventurer supplement. Tome of Battle is nice if your players want to play different kinds of melee characters. However it introduces a new system (sort of like psionics is a new system) to the core rules and you may not find it worth the trouble - especially if none of your players actually choose to use it! |
