| Mr. Styx03-14-05, 03:44 PM | I don't know if this has been answered elsewhere, but how am i supposed to calculate time for D&D? I am making a Dragon PC, but I don't know how to advance its age. Or when to advance... |
| The Almighty Dru03-14-05, 04:30 PM | Simply put, time flows at the rate the DM says it flows at. In combat, time is more structured, i.e. six seconds per round. But outside of combat, it's more abstract. It's up to the DM to tell you how much time it takes getting from place to place, or how much time you spend as down time between adventures. And as for time during roleplaying, I'd say it's probably the same amount of time as you spend making the conversation with the NPC or whatever. For the dragon and it's aging, the only thing you really need to worry about is how many years you're spending doing whatever. |
| Mr. Styx03-14-05, 04:33 PM | So advancing class levels is independant of age, but dragon levels advance by time? |
| The Almighty Dru03-14-05, 04:38 PM | Pretty much. You can gain as many class levels in an amount of time as long as you can "realistically" do that much adventuring. The dragon can gain class levels independently from his dragon age. Just when the next 100 years rolls around, the dragon will advance and the ECL will shoot up fast. That's why it's hard making dragon characters. Unless the whole party is made of dragons, few adventures go long enough for dragons to advance, or the ECL of the party gets messed up when they do advance. |
| Mr. Styx03-14-05, 04:50 PM | Okay. Also about hit dice and saves for a dragon... Styx dragon example: The saves given in the dragon's examples are +5 (Fort) +4 (Ref) +4 (Will). Now these are the "racial" save modifiers for a wyrmling. A dragon's saves in particular are all good. So at "first level of dragon" are +2 +2 +2 for the saves. So Then that means +7 Fort, +6 Ref, and +6 Will. but since the written dragon's HD is 5d12, then do are the base save bonuses equal to a 5th level character's? So i'm basically saying, is every HD like a level, thus advancing saves, BAB, max skills/cross class skills, feats and ability adjustments |

| Mr. Styx03-14-05, 05:00 PM | Tnaks, i'll probably have more questions in 30 minutes >.< |
| Mr. Styx03-14-05, 05:34 PM | now that this is more about dragons than time mebbe i should open a new thread on the monster forum >.< but how do i find the length of a line breath weapon of acid? So, what's the maximum distance for a breath weapon of acid with a line area? |

So, what's the maximum distance for a breath weapon of acid with a line area? Its all in the description of the Breath Weapon ability at the beginning of the True Dragon entry in the MM, then refer to the particular dragon's entry for any specifics/exceptions. |
