Campaign Poll [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-14-07, 09:04 PM I know Paizo already has this on their website, but I need to know:
What is your favorite campaign setting?
I like homebrews, but I'm leaving them out. Just published ones. If it was published by a company other than WotC or TSR, say what company did it.

My top three (In that order)
1. Dark Sun
2. Spelljammer
3. Eberron

Eberron, hands down.

It really brought me back to D&D after I had sworn it off. The flavor really appealed to me.

Forgotten Realms?!

Definately my favorite. I just purchased the campaign setting for myself after having been out of it for a couple of years. Getting into DMing it is VERY cool.

I don't see myself liking Eberron, the flavor isn't at all what I like in a D&D game... Other than that its all homebrew for me!!

29 years of playing D&D, and over 24 of those in Greyhawk. I have not had to un-teach my players every time some designer decides he wants to canoninze his latest NPC-is-a-god fetish, or fully detail yet another undiscovered area of the continent that I already developed on my own.

I never liked Spelljammer or Dark Sun and I think the DM who said we were playing Al-Qadim was really home brewing and just using the flavor. I can't bring myself to even want to play Eberron due to the fact that everything I read on the wizards site does not interest me, and every time someone says why they love it I want to puke. But if you are in love with Eberron good for you.

3. City State of the Overlord (can't remember the world name, but a great Judge's Guild product)

Yeah, I like worlds of medium or less magic dependent environments. Personally, I've given up on game worlds and strictly home brew (ever since 1989).

Until this post I was perturbed at the lack of love for Planescape in this thread.

The best of all worldsPlanescape is not a campaign world. Planescape is the ultimate in compromise. It is a safety net designed for folks who make indecision their life trait. :P

03-15-07, 09:14 AM 1 - Eberron. Fantasy with a fresh twist. Love the new races, hate psionics!

2 - Birthright. Running a kingdom was good fun! No Halflings!

3 - Forgotten Realms. Classic fantasy setting.

I also liked Dragonlance and Planescape back in the 2nd ed. days.

03-15-07, 09:50 AM 1/ Forgotten Realms - I ignore all of the latest additions by Greenwood and his fairies; MY version of the Realms is more elemental, bestial, and gritty. Very few Elves and lots of critters.

2/ Greyhawk - I love this world as a player, but as a DM I'm not as comfortable running a game in it. I need to learn more about it.

3/Ptolus/Iron Kingdoms - love the intro of steampunk stuff into the game, and I'm currently playing in a Ptolus game (albeit a very boring one).

Played Al-Quadim, Ravenloft, Dragonlance, Dark Sun - they all suck. And Eberron is the latest hard-on for WOTC but it sucks too.

Really, I found Al-Qadim to be one of the most interesting and elegant settings.

Harn is from Columbia Games, eh. Oh sure, you betchum I know they're Canucks but every now and again a Canadian (from Canada, the 51st State - Oh I am so dead for that one) does something really good, eh.

Time now to get me some Moslon and go watch some hockey. The STANLEY CUP CHAMPS, THE CAROLINA HURRICANES play the Devils tonight. Oh yeah, started off as a Habs fan a long time ago. Go figure, eh.

1. Grayhawk
2. Forgotten Realms
3. Spelljammers/Ebberon

Reasons:
1. I have never actually played in greyhawk, but my DM and myself use the pantheon, a lot of NPC's, and some cities in our homebrewed campaigns. I have the most fun in these so I have to pay tribute to the reason why we have so much enjoyment because I don't have to spend too much time on world building and more on the campaign.

2. I've played two campaigns in FR and they were both a lot of fun. So I have good memories there and even though the world is so detailed, my DM was amazing enough to make a group of first level characters feel like heroes at the end of the night.

3. I have not played either, nor any other published campaign. So I choose these two because I really like the idea of both and would love to play either. Playing DnD in space just sounds cool and the high magic world, low power is how we run a lot of our homebrews so Ebberon seems cool as well.
