| CrabHeart12-08-06, 09:18 PM | ok well now i need the basic weapon package for him... we are both very new and havnt played a single game yet |
| Rerecros12-08-06, 09:26 PM | don't worry too much about weapons for druids, they depend more on their animal companions, offensive spells and latter shape-shifting for combat. Just take the scimitar, and they'll be fine. (why a hermetic woodsman would be proficient in exotic blades I haven't the foggiest). If they chose elf for race, they might also want to consider getting a shortbow. |
| BelRex12-09-06, 12:38 PM | Get a club or quarterstaff, you can enchant it with Shillelagh (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/shillelagh.htm). If you want a ranged weapon, stay with the sling and use the spell magic stone (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/magicStone.htm). Both are useful. As stated before, a elf would be a good choice for it's weapon options. Another good choice would be the Aasimar (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/planetouched.htm#aasimar). They have a bonus to Wisdom, your main casting stat, and charisma(useful for wild empathy checks). They are also proficient with all martial and simple weapons(Ask Wizards (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ask/20060731a)). You could be descended from a Guardianal(celestial good aligned animal-like creatures). |
| ShubNiggurath12-09-06, 06:12 PM | I am going to give you an example Human druid 1 (32 pb) STR=10 (0) DEX= 10 (0) CON=16 (+3) INT= 14 (+2) WIS= 16 (+3) CHA= 12 (+1) HP: 11 AC=13 (10 base + 3 studded leather); touch 10; FF 13 BAB=+0 Damage=1d6 (18-20x2) scimitar or 1d4 (x2) sling Feats: Spell focus (conjuration); augment summoning Skills: heal (7); Handle animal (5; 9 with your companion); concentration (7); listen (7); spot (7); survival (7) Take just another rank in handle animal, do not take any more ranks in heal and switch to knowledge (nature) and maybe diplomacy. Or ride. Keep pumping up concentration, listen and spot. Spells memorized: (3/2) lev. 0: detect magic; light; guidance Lev 1: entangle; magic stone Animal companion: Riding dog (trained for war) Medium Animal Hit Dice: 2d8+4 (13 hp) Initiative: +2 Speed: 40 ft. (8 squares) Armor Class: 16 (+2 Dex, +4 natural), touch 12, flat-footed 14 Base Attack/Grapple: +1/+3 Attack: Bite +3 melee (1d6+3) Space/Reach: 5 ft./5 ft. Special Attacks: Trip (+2) Special Qualities: Low-light vision, scent Saves: Fort +5, Ref +5, Will +1 Abilities: Str 15, Dex 15, Con 15, Int 2, Wis 12, Cha 6 Skills: Jump +8, Listen +5, Spot +5, Swim +3, Survival +1* Feats: Alertness, TrackB Let your dog handle combat and help him by firing with your sling, entangling your enemies and hitting them with your magic stones. Wait another couple of levels and then start your summoning-spree |
| Thiez12-09-06, 06:17 PM | You know, BelRex, I really don't think someone who plays for the first time should use a non-PHB race like the aasimar, especially since it has a +1 level adjustment, making him a 0th level druid if he's playing a 1st level campaign. The rest is pretty good advice, though :) |
| BelRex12-09-06, 06:52 PM | I'm a sucker for a monsterous race, sorry :P Otherwise, stick with human as the suggested starting package. The extra feat and skill point will be useful for you. You may want to switch the riding dog for a wolf(which can trip). May also want to get a large wooden shield, and your divine focus(holly or mistletoe). A quarterstaff is free, so you could save there. I don't think druids can wear studded leather, but I could be mistaken, get padded or leather armor instead. |
| CrabHeart12-09-06, 10:04 PM | hm... how is the hp 11?... i thought the hp was the same as the hit dice? 8 |
| YamiSouru12-09-06, 10:35 PM | hm... how is the hp 11?... i thought the hp was the same as the hit dice? 8 D8 +con modifier of 3 = 11 hit points. |

| CharlieRock12-10-06, 09:34 AM | Something odd, here. He's going to pick his skills, but you don't have the book to make him a druid? And, he is going to pick out weapons? How are you guys playing with no books at all, if you don't mind? |
| CrabHeart12-10-06, 06:11 PM | well im useing the d20 site thingy for a bit of it.. im getting my book back tommarow |
