I'd like to buy the D&D basic game and the D&D Player's Kit ... but I have stumbled across an enigma ...

What are D&D minis ? What are skirmishes ? I never played D&D before and have no idea with what to start with. None of us have ever played because unfortunately not many ppl play here in Romania ... so what am I supposed to get ?

What is the gameplay difference between a D&D basic game and a D&D minis game and a skirmish game (if not minis - skirmish) ?

Thanks in advance for reading !

The d+d mins game is a game of battles between two or more players controlling small armies of miniatures (rather than one character as in the rpg). Each battle is called a skirmish. The rules of d+d miniatures are similar to the d+d roleplay game, but some parts have been simplified or removed to make the game faster and less compliated. These battles do not include many of the intellectual and social (from a character's point of view) activities such as solving puzzels and interacting with npcs.
The basic game is a simple introductary game with some miniatures included.

Hope I've solved more problems than I've caused here.

Use this (http://www.d20srd.org/) site. I wouldn't recommend buying anything at the moment since 4th edition is coming out soon.

Also, minis are unnecessary. Wizards pushes them because Hasbro is a toy company.

And they make money.

Honestly, the D&D Minis game isn't bad at all. And depending upon what you use for tactical maps in D&D, may also serve a dual purpose.
