| FGBill06-21-07, 03:06 PM | Hello. If an OGRE MAGE is unconscious becuase he took more non-lethal damage than his HP, can he be coup de graced by a weapon? He takes non-lethal from everything except acid/fire. Can I cdg him with a weapon? Thanks! |
| RealSorceror06-21-07, 03:26 PM | Stab him and find out. Its what I'd do. Anyways, I'd say it does, just because a coup suggest you are stabbing him in a vital spot to deal critical damage. If he is prone and you are stabbing him in the brain or spine, I don't see why it wouldn't kill him dead, regeneration be damned. Oh, and I'm probably wrong, so don't listen to what I say. :) |
| Joseph_Silver06-21-07, 03:29 PM | You can CDG an ogre mage with a melee weapon, crossbow, or bow that deals fire or acid damage. The only damage that counts towards the ogre mage's saving throw (DC 10 + damage dealt) is the fire and/or acid damage. Edit: If you don't have any flaming weapons, a flask of alchemist's fire can kill an ogre mage. Because he's unconscious, he can't put out the flames (a full-round action). It will eventually consume his body. |
| Zarith06-21-07, 03:33 PM | From the SRD Regeneration Creatures with this extraordinary ability recover from wounds quickly and can even regrow or reattach severed body parts. Damage dealt to the creature is treated as nonlethal damage, and the creature automatically cures itself of nonlethal damage at a fixed rate per round, as given in the creature’s entry. Certain attack forms, typically fire and acid, deal damage to the creature normally; that sort of damage doesn’t convert to nonlethal damage and so doesn’t go away. The creature’s description includes the details. A regenerating creature that has been rendered unconscious through nonlethal damage can be killed with a coup de grace. The attack cannot be of a type that automatically converts to nonlethal damage. |
| FGBill06-21-07, 03:41 PM | Thanks all. Zerith: SRD? Not familiar with that acronym. So it looks like I can only CDG him with fire or acid weapons, spells, or items. Non-lethal damage that exceeds his HP is irrelevant damage-wise. It just keeps him unconscious, right? If he has 54 HP and I do 60 non-lethal, when he regens 5 HP is he still unconscious (60-5=55), right? 10-Q. |

In the annoying event that you don't have weapons grade fire or acid readily at your disposal have part of your party keep hitting him to keep him under his HP and just set him on fire with a torch or something. He'll light eventually.... |

| kentonblack06-21-07, 08:40 PM | tell you the truth, you dont have to deal hitpoint damage to kill thigs in dnd. thats just the CONVENIENT way to kill things. try suffocating things, or drowning things. it works really really well. |
