| TevolRia02-23-07, 01:09 PM | I didn't know whether to put this in psionics or magic so I'm putting it here. can you have both a familiar and a psicrystal? |
| Zherog02-23-07, 01:15 PM | Assuming you have access to classes that grant access to each (such as wizard and psion), then yes. Same is true for an animal companion or a paladin's special mount. |
| Xagunder02-23-07, 01:18 PM | Yes. In fact, a psion 1/druid 1/sorcerer 3 could have a psicrystal, an animal companion, and 2 familiars (having taken the Obtain Familiar feat from Complete Arcane). |
| CantripN02-23-07, 01:45 PM | You can add another Animal Companion of sorts using the feat Wizards put online... You can also have a Paladin Mount, if you somehow manage to stay a Druid while doing so. |
| Sunic_Flames02-23-07, 02:11 PM | You can add another Animal Companion of sorts using the feat Wizards put online... You can also have a Paladin Mount, if you somehow manage to stay a Druid while doing so. Don't see how that's possible, druids have to have at least 1 neutral component in their alignment, paladins have to be lawful good or lose all powers. |
| EscherEnigma02-23-07, 02:20 PM | Or Paladin 5/Ranger 4/Beastmaster 1/Sorc 1/Wizard 1/(Any Psionic Class with the Psicrystal feat) for: 1 Special Paladin Mount (from Paladin) 1 Animal Companion (from Ranger) 1 Animal Companion (from Beastmaster) 2 Familiars (from Sorc and Wizard) 1 PsiCrystal (from the psicrystal feat and being a psionic character) And if you add in other feats like obtain familiar and the something or other on the wizards site, you could have even more familiars and animal companions. Of course, most of them would be fairly useless, but it would certainly look impressive. But yeah, if you qualify for multiple minions, then you can get 'em. |

Same is true for an animal companion or a paladin's special mount.Actually, psion doesn't grant access to a psicrystal. It's granted through the Psicrystal Affinity feat, which has a requirement of Manifester Level 1st. This means that psions, wilders, psychic warriors, ardents, divine minds, lurks, and psychic rogues (Mind's Eye) all can qualify for it. Erudites (a subtype of psion presented in Complete Psionic) get it as a bonus feat at level 1, but that's still not quite the same as having it as a class feature. Furthermore, if Complete Psionic is to be believed, races with psi-like abilities, including dromite, duergar, elan, githyanki, githzerai, half-giant, kalashtar, maenad, synad, thri-kreen, and xeph all qualify by virtue of having a manifester level for their racial psi-like abilities. I find this questionable (like about 7/8ths of Complete Psionic), but it's in print.Don't see how that's possible, druids have to have at least 1 neutral component in their alignment, paladins have to be lawful good or lose all powers.Wild Cohort feat, off the WotC website. Not *truly* an animal companion, but close. Alternatively, just be a lawful good paladin/ranger (rangers get animal companions too, remember!). This will result in a terribly weak animal companion and a terribly weak mount unless you take the Devoted Tracker feat from Complete Adventurer, though -- and if you do, that opens up techniques like the Supermount! (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=382372), if you're willing to go to extremes.Or Paladin 5/Ranger 4/Beastmaster 1/Sorc 1/Wizard 1/(Any Psionic Class with the Psicrystal feat) for: 1 Special Paladin Mount (from Paladin) 1 Animal Companion (from Ranger) 1 Animal Companion (from Beastmaster) 2 Familiars (from Sorc and Wizard) 1 PsiCrystal (from the psicrystal feat and being a psionic character) And if you add in other feats like obtain familiar and the something or other on the wizards site, you could have even more familiars and animal companions. But yeah, if you qualify for multiple minions, then you can get 'em.Incorrect: The multiclass rules in the PHB specify that wizard and sorcerer levels stack for the familiar, instead of granting two familiars. You're right, though, it wouldn't look very impressive. However, there is a feat in some Dragon somewhere called Extra Familiar (it gives you an extra familiar at something like -4 effective class levels, can be taken multiple times at increasing penalties), which, while it isn't very effective on its own, can be made devastating. Yeah, I'm aware it's via a feat with a pre-req of Manifester 1. I was taking the lazy way of providing an example, rather than saying "psion 1 who has taken the Psicrystal Affinity feat." Sue me. :P |

Actually, if you qualify for multiple familiars you still only get 1 but all your levels in classes that provide familiars stack for determining your familiar's abilities. |
| EscherEnigma02-23-07, 06:03 PM | Really? huh. Didn't think to check it. Does it specify that anytime you get a familiar they stack, or just the case of Wizard/Sorcerer multiclass? 'cause if it says the Wizard/Sorcerer is an exception, you can still get it from Hexblade. Anyway, I think the original question has been answered to death. |

Only in the case of the wizard/sorcerer multiclass does it say they stack. Hexblade says that you can only have one, but not that hexblade levels stack. As I said above when I responded to you, though, there was a feat in Dragon that got around that. |
| CantripN02-23-07, 08:45 PM | So we can have: 1 Mount - Paladin 1 Animal Companion - Ranger 1 Animal Companion - Wild Cohort 1 Animal Companion - Beastmaster 3 Monstrous Companions - Beast Heart Adept 3+ Familiars - Wizard, Hexblade, Extra Familiar 1 Psicrystal - Psicrystal Affinity Total: 11+ Friends. |

Hexblade says that you can only have one at a time even if you have levels in other familiar-granting classes. It also lacks the text that lets it stack with wizard or sorcerer levels like the multiclass rules in the PHB. Beastmaster can actually grant many more than just one, though. |
