Me and a friend were really bored today and thinking of the easiest way to make something immune to death.

There's the half red/gold dragon troll voidmind. Immune to fire and acid and everything else does subdual damage. (Does that apply to something like Disintegrate? It deals subdual, not lethal, so it couldn't kill a troll no matter how much damage it does?) But that doesn't stop death effects... Now, if it were undead somehow, that would make it immune to everything but turning and death to undeath. This would include all damage because it's all subdual which undead are immune to.

Or maybe a Wendigo that is somehow immune to fire and death affects.

Any thoughts?

Hmm. Wouldn't a polymorph type spell strip it of a lot of its special abilities?

You want something immune to dying, then just give the tarrasque 24 levels or so, and have it take the epic feats Spell immunity: wish, and Spell immunity: Miracle.

(edit) Oh, I also just remembered an incredibly appropriate quote, from the late, great (and fictional) Gary Jackson.

If it has stats, we can kill it

DOes it breath? Can you drown it?

Does it dig? Can you teleport it to some closed cave on the Elemental Plane of Earth?

If its not undead, it still needs to breath. Just grapple and hold it underwater until the bubbles stop. Drowning doesn't deal damage, it just makes you go dead.

If it is undead or otherwise doesn't need to breath, just Teleport it to the bottom of the ocean. 1d6 pressure damage per minute per 100 feet of depth. At average ocean depth, thats over 300d6 damage per minute that no immunity can protect from.

Actually, that can be taken care of by feats from the Lords of Madness book. One let's you breath underwater and you're immune to cold damage (from cold water) and pressure damage. (iirc)

Planeshift it to the positive energy plane?

Well, there's always the 1/2 golem from the MM2 that gives you spell immunities based on the golem. Immune to all spells that allow SR would prevent a lot of spells from harming you... toss it onto a troll...

Be immune to anything that has Spell Resistance. Let's assume you failed your save (willingly) and are now Neutral evil so you have the Construct type.

You're only weakness would be Fire and Acid...

If you were a Crystaline Troll and were only hurt by Sonic damage... and became a 1/2 Emerald Dragon *Before* having a golem arm/leg grafted onto you...

You recall incorrectly. Neither of those feats will protect you from pressure damage.

I guess it's a good thing that the half golem Crystalline troll would be immune to teleport.

Undead cannot regenerate.

A 10th Level Pale master, however, is immune to subdual damage, amongst other things.

Undead cannot regenerate.

Yup, if for any reason you lose your CON score, you lose regeneration.

Relevant quote:

Regeneration
Creatures with this extraordinary ability recover from wounds quickly and can even regrow or reattach severed body parts. Damage dealt to the creature is treated as nonlethal damage, and the creature automatically cures itself of nonlethal damage at a fixed rate per round, as given in the creature’s entry.

Certain attack forms, typically fire and acid, deal damage to the creature normally; that sort of damage doesn’t convert to nonlethal damage and so doesn’t go away. The creature’s description includes the details. A regenerating creature that has been rendered unconscious through nonlethal damage can be killed with a coup de grace. The attack cannot be of a type that automatically converts to nonlethal damage.

Creatures with regeneration can regrow lost portions of their bodies and can reattach severed limbs or body parts. Severed parts die if they are not reattached.

Regeneration does not restore hit points lost from starvation, thirst, or suffocation.

Attack forms that don’t deal hit point damage ignore regeneration.

An attack that can cause instant death only threatens the creature with death if it is delivered by weapons that deal it lethal damage.

A creature must have a Constitution score to have the regeneration ability.

I can kill it with a full-round action or two. I need:

3 wands of Orb of Fire (CL15th)
1 Rod of Many Wands
Searing Spell Metamagic (+0)
Blistering Spell Metamagic (+0)
Fiery Spell Metamagic (+0)
Violate Spell Metamagic (+0)
Empower Spell Metamagic (+1)
Twin Spell Metamagic (+3)
Arcane Thesis (Orb of Fire)
Metamagic Spell Trigger (be it the feat or from an Artificer)

3 Orbs of Searing, Blistering, Fiery, Empowered Orbs of Fire deal an average of:

15d6 (CL 15th) x 3= 45d6 fire
+8 Fire damage x 3=24 points of extra Fire damage
+50% from Empower= 236+24
+1/d6 of Fire damage= 67 points of extra Fire damage
Divide by 2 because it is immune to Fire (either Searing or Fiery spell allow it to deal 1/2 damage to Fire immune creatures). No immunity to this fire damage means it cannot regenerate from the damage.

x2 from Twin spell.

=

327 points of Fire damage/full-round action.

Average HP varies from age category of the dragon in question. Each use of this expends 11 charges from each wand. 1/2 of the damage is Vile, and thus cannot be healed unless it is in a Hallowed area (or whatever the other spell is that heals Vile damage). Given 2 rounds, it will be dead outright.

Yes. Which is why you would do my trick two or three times. The highest HP of a Gold Dragon presented in the Draconomicon is about 590-620. Add in the extra Con, that about 700 HP. So two or three shots, if you roll out all of the dice, should do the trick. If you just take the average damage, then it is about three or four shots before it dies. A party of nothing but Wizards could do this in one round.

Build it stronger. Undead+Rogue=Death by Disintegrate. If the SoDs are hitting you, optimize your saves while still being effective. If the creatures are hitting you, play it smart and make it where they can't get close enough to hit you (not boost your AC through the roof). If traps are what are killing you off, then buy a Bag of Tricks (gray) and have the animals that appear run down the hallway/open the doors for you, or get mindless undead to do it.

And if it is simply the DM, then take it to Theoretical, and don't let him know until it is way too late.

Well, I was thinking a half-golem curst with levels of something for acid immunity... but those suggestions work too.

And with the Implosion kill... I had a 35 hide check spotted by a Death Slaad.

How this sound. Born human. At some point have clay golem arms attached to you. (1/2 golem - mm2). Then later cursed and turned into a curst (Monsters of Faerun/Lost Empires of Faerun) . All the while following the way of the Green Dragon. 9 levels of Dragon Shaman (phb2) (green dragon) = Acid immunity.

All for +8str -2dex -10int -6wis and -8cha >.<

Maybe swallow an item that has a use-activated antimagic field to escape the Force Cages.

Doesn't really matter what the thing is, throw a big enough rock at it and it'll die.

If it has some "dodge damage" ability, throw more rocks. you'll run out of abilities before I run out of rocks.

Ah, the Hulking Hurler solution.

Though a good guess, no actually. Earth Shugenja (or a general wizard or cleric would do) With Shape Earth. A hulking hurler can't throw a big enough rock for me, so I have to use magic to make a big enough rock. And I just so happened to make it far far above your head, and a football field wide.

Er. Actually Curst can only be killed by completely destroying body in acid ( lvl 9 Green Dragon Shaman fixes that) or by a spell such as Disintegrate, Undeath to Death, or Remove Curse (which 1/2 golem prevents).

In case of dropping a mountain on him... he can still breath acid.

Curst doesn't work. You can't be undead and have regeneration. Without regeneration, curst is nothing. Just one more screwup in 3.0 (sad too, I liked the idea of the curst, wish the execution were done right).

It doesn't have regeneration. It has teh "Unkillable" trait. Does the same as Regeneration, but named differently.
**Edit**

And it doesn't make all non-acid or non-fire damage subdual. You can still knock it to 0 and paralyze it. Luckily Dragon Shaman gives you fast healing when below 1/2 your max hp. Unless you're knocked out. Which UD can't be. Still works if you're Paralyzed though.

easy solution, just ask around for the most "broken" combination of classes, feats, and abbilitys on the boards short of pun-pun, and you will litteraly eat your dm's campain. and be a jerk, probably.

I managed to die three times in one session.

I think I started off as a level 6 Sorcerer who managed to pull off 65hps and still died. Then I rolled a halfling who was unluckily crit and dealt massive damage by a barbarian who full power attacked and rolled two twenties with a greataxe. The halfling then was rezzed and killed by an AoE fear save twice or die. Don't remember the spell name. I was actually hiding and holding onto the bag of holding for the group... they never found my body to rez. I buried myself in the sand with a 43 hide check. The caster didn't know I was there either.

As for playing the "broken" character, they seem to think everything I do is broken. For some reason they think a thrikreen with Lightning Maces is broken. Even if said thrikreen has only a 17 AC and is level 15. And has 4 levels of fighter.
