| itraylor09-12-06, 01:44 AM | Just as the subject asks I am curious if you can wear two gloves of storing? I assume yes but just want to get a opinion from others. Thanks! |
| linker_4409-12-06, 02:19 AM | i dont see way u cant it dosen,t say u can,t |
| Mordent_Sage09-12-06, 02:22 AM | Sorry, but the item slots list in the DMG says you can wear one glove, pair of gloves or pair or gauntlets on the hands, so one glove of storing takes up your glove slot. One only! |
| enlightened09-12-06, 02:23 AM | I would actually suggest wearing two. It would be so 1980's to only wear one. :) |
| Sikyanakotik09-12-06, 02:34 AM | Sorry, but the item slots list in the DMG says you can wear one glove, pair of gloves or pair or gauntlets on the hands, so one glove of storing takes up your glove slot. One only! Ouch. It may be contradictory, but that's exactly what it says in the SRD. Then again, if I were DMing I'd personally see no problem with wearing two, as long as you're willing to pay for both seperately. It's not like they give your character some sort of numerical bonus, after all. And besides, how else are you going to be able to reload dual-wielded crossbows? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v402/Sikyanakotik/koboldgrin.gif |
| itraylor09-12-06, 02:58 AM | I guess the solution would be to custom design a pair of gloves of storing. Simple fix I suppose... |
| Seeker9509-12-06, 09:23 AM | There are two questions here. Can you *wear* more than one glove of storing? Can you *use* more than one glove of storing? The answer to the former is yes... assuming you have two hands. The answer to the latter is no... no more than you can use two amulets, or a vest and a shirt, or three rings. The limits are not anatomical restrictions (in most cases). They are slotted magic item quantity restrictions. |
| Alcari Ambaron09-12-06, 01:27 PM | seeker's right. You may only use a single glove of storing. Howeverm i have wondered about wearing multiple necklaces and stuff. How do you determine which one is used? |
| Seeker9509-12-06, 01:50 PM | i have wondered about wearing multiple necklaces and stuff. How do you determine which one is used?In my campaign, if "anatomy" allows you to wear multiple items, I allow it as well. However, you must take a standard action to declare which item is "active" and then use the normal activation time after that. Once an item *is* active, it remains active until a different item is declared the active item (using a standard action). I require my players to declare which item is default active if they are doing this. |
| Zherog09-12-06, 02:00 PM | I go by the "the first one you put on" method. So if you put on two necklaces, the one you donned first is active; if you put on three rings, the two you donned first are active. You can activate the inactive item by removing the active item as a move action. So, if you have on a periapt of wisdom and an amulet of natural armor, you can activate the amulet by removing the periapt. Also note that the DMG has rules for "stacking" items together. I've played with somebody who greatly enjoyed doing this, and generally I don't have a problem with it. |
| CryoSilver09-12-06, 02:39 PM | But the Glove of Storing isn't really a constant benefit type item; once you have it on and there's an item inside, you aren't really "using" it until you summon back the item; this is much like wearing a Ring of Spell Storing without using the spells inside. So, if you put on a second glove while wearing the first, would you be unable to put an item in? Could you put it in, but then not get it back? What if someone else put the item in for you, then gave you the glove? The only thing I'd rule is that you couldn't retrieve or store from both gloves in the same round, which is the only time you are "using" the glove. |
| Seeker9509-12-06, 03:28 PM | But the Glove of Storing isn't really a constant benefit type item; once you have it on and there's an item inside, you aren't really "using" it until you summon back the itemNot true. Once you have an item inside it, you are using it until you take the item out. Storing an item *is* using a glove of storing. Once you put an item into it, it is "always on". |
| Sikyanakotik09-12-06, 04:33 PM | Not true. Once you have an item inside it, you are using it until you take the item out. Storing an item *is* using a glove of storing. Once you put an item into it, it is "always on". But the glove is acting on the item, not the user. How can there be magical interference when the glove doesn't actually affect the user at all? |
| CryoSilver09-12-06, 05:01 PM | By that same token, what if you just keep the glove with item on your belt? Are you still using it? |
| Grand Theft Otto09-12-06, 05:17 PM | Not true. Once you have an item inside it, you are using it until you take the item out. Storing an item *is* using a glove of storing. Once you put an item into it, it is "always on". So if you take the glove off, the item pops out? Not in my interpretation of the rules. So I'd say its only "in effect" the round its stored or summoned. I'd let a player wear and use 2, they are horrendously expensive as is. |
| Soulburn8409-12-06, 06:52 PM | Isn't it funny how the character builders for WotC seem to ignore some stuff? Look at page 23 in The Five Nations, Prince Jurian wears two Gloves of storing one holding his Rapier and one holding his Hand Crossbow. |

You can just say that the glove of storing takes up "1/2 of a gloves slot" and you're set. |
| Seeker9509-12-06, 08:51 PM | So if you take the glove off, the item pops out? Not in my interpretation of the rules.Immaterial. If you take the glove off, you aren't wearing two gloves of storing, thereby being irrelevant to a discussion of whether you can wear two gloves of storing as slotted items in a slot that allows only one. What you let your players do is fine. Houserules are great. But when the question on the Boards is "can you", the answer should first be "what do the rules allow" before offering what a generous or stingy DM will or will not allow. |

Look at page 23 in The Five Nations, Prince Jurian wears two Gloves of storing one holding his Rapier and one holding his Hand Crossbow. That doesn't mean he didn't create a custom set. The designers are free to use all the rules at their disposal, including item creation. So in reply, I would say no. It's not funny at all. :P |
| itraylor09-13-06, 01:30 AM | Well my character is an Artificer so I will just custom design my own set, problem solved! Thanks for all the input. |
| Dareon09-13-06, 05:45 AM | The description of the glove of storing says that despite the handiness of a pair of such gloves, only one is created at a time. This implies that you are capable of wearing and making use of both. Sadly, this line is only in the 3rd Edition DMG. Since 3.5 added the "single glove" part to what magic items you can wear, by the RAW, you are unable to use two Gloves of Storing. An adventurer already looks like he's been digging through a thrift store dumpster without forcing him to only wear one glove, though. As a DM, I'd allow wearing two, and as a player in a game where it wasn't allowed, I'd actively protest first, and passively-aggressively protest by having the character with the glove become more and more like Michael Jackson if the DM insisted. Note: I do not condone or encourage acting like Michael Jackson at the gaming table. Although you are free to moonwalk as you get up to get pizza. |
| Yaeri09-13-06, 05:52 AM | I always thought that items like the glove of storing, were only one glove for the purpose of being able to use two of them. But reading the specific entries again after all the nay replies here, it seems you can indeed only use one at a time. |
| Grand Theft Otto09-13-06, 10:42 AM | Immaterial. What you let your players do is fine. Houserules are great. But when the question on the Boards is "can you", the answer should first be "what do the rules allow" before offering what a generous or stingy DM will or will not allow. It doesnt say one way or the other. Since you want an **** interpretation, take a look at the RAW. "One glove, pair of gloves, or pair of gauntlets on the hands ". I choose to wear a pair of gloves of storing. The fact that you can buy a single one is immaterial, and likely due to how a character probably doesnt need more than one. Its an interpretation either way, and given what a huge ripoff the item is, may as well let those desiging to flush their money away go at it. |
| Morka09-13-06, 11:36 AM | Immaterial. If you take the glove off, you aren't wearing two gloves of storing, thereby being irrelevant to a discussion of whether you can wear two gloves of storing as slotted items in a slot that allows only one. Not quite. It's rather a simple way to bend the rule. Your current Glove of Storing is full? You remove it, put it in your pocket, and begin using the second one. Anyway, if anyone decide to "houserule" it is possible to wear and use two Gloves of Storing, just be careful to not create a rift to the Astral Plane when you rub your hands together... :P |
| Seeker9509-13-06, 01:22 PM | Not quite. It's rather a simple way to bend the rule. Your current Glove of Storing is full? You remove it, put it in your pocket, and begin using the second one. Nothing wrong with that. You're still taking the glove off, so you are not using two gloves of storing. You still had to spend a standard action to take the glove off, and a standard action to put it back on if you want to recall the item. Gloves of storing are not useful for their ability to store something. They are useful for their ability to retrieve something directly to your hand as a free action. If you consider spending three or four standard actions* to accomplish two free actions instead of one to be "getting around the rules" more power to ya! * Assuming you start with one glove already loaded and worn: 1. Recall stored item (free action) 2. Remove glove #1 (standard action) 3. Retrieve glove #2 (standard action) 4. Put on glove #2 (standard action) 5. Recall stored item (free action) So, four rounds later, you are ready to use both your items. Not exactly a model of efficiency. |
| Techsmithy09-13-06, 02:42 PM | I had a dm that allowed the 2 gloves to work BUT you had to find a right and left handed glove. It was like a 10% or so to find left handed gloves. Also we had fun when a guy reached his gloved hand in to his bag of holding........needless to say whackiness insued. |
| Zherog09-13-06, 03:32 PM | Also we had fun when a guy reached his gloved hand in to his bag of holding........needless to say whackiness insued. By the rules, it shouldn't. The only wackiness laid out in the rules is the portable hole-bag of holding. |
| Bluebrush09-13-06, 03:35 PM | Anyway, if anyone decide to "houserule" it is possible to wear and use two Gloves of Storing, just be careful to not create a rift to the Astral Plane when you rub your hands together... :PThe glove of storing uses a shrink item effect. You could even have a handy haversack full of the things and there'd be no rift. (Unless of course, you were stupid enough to keep your bag of holding in one of the gloves.) |
