cant find basic game set [Archive] - Wizards Community

01-10-06, 09:09 PM is there a way to play and learn rules with out buying the d&d basic game set. everywhere is sold out and can not get any more.

01-10-06, 09:52 PM Do a google search on "dungeons and dragons basic game" and you'll find dozens of websites trying to sell it. That's how I found my copy. I can't remember the website, or else I would post a link for you.

01-10-06, 10:13 PM Personally, I don't reccomend the basic game for learning the full RPG. It's almost like calling the original Donkey Kong a good way to learn to play Mario Sunshine.

However, I DO reccomend checking out the RPG gamer classifieds and try to find a group looking for players in your area. You should be able to find a group willing to help a new player learn the game.

Once you do join, though, I reccomend steering clear of spellcasters at first (except the bard.. the Bard is a GREAT class for new players). And later on, after you're more familiar with the game mechanics, I still reccomend steering clear of Druids. Powerful as they are, they're among the most difficult classes to play both in both roleplay and game mechanics. I generally feel a person shouldn't play a druid until they've been DM at least once and is familiar with the various rules of monster creation and advancement.

01-11-06, 04:33 PM On Amazon.com they are taking pre-orders for the 2006 edition of the basic game. I'm not sure when it will be released, but it should be soon. I'm planing on buying it. I already own the regular 3.5e core books, but I thought that I'd try my hand at DMing the basic game for friends.

01-12-06, 04:32 AM I disagree, I found the basic game very helpful to begin understanding the game. I played a few times with that, then when itching for more, I got the players handbook to really learn.

As for finding it...online stores is probably gonna be best. I searched every possible store in my area, and found only 1.
