I just thought I'd share an RPG that has been my hobby since 1994! Whew.. hard to believe it's been 13 years! I have long history with D&D and other RPGs. It's funny being on this site - my first job was at a game store as a teenager and Wizards of the Coast came in a white van and taught the employees how to play this new card game "Magic: The Gathering" as a promo, and the D&D franchise was still owned by TSR. How times change! Our RPG is online is run and played by D&D and RPG gamers, completely free and open to everyone, no hidden costs and no in-game perks for "donations" or anything like that I swear. Seriously free. It's a MUD (multi-user domain) with a nearly 15 year history of development and a strong base of players. It is an entirely text-based, roleplaying-required game but with competition and strong game mechanics as well, including both GM-run and automated quests. If you are interested in giving the game a try, check out www.carrionfields.com - we have an estalbished and sizable player base but as we've been losing some players to commercial MMORPGs we are looking for some old-fashioned gamers to join us! The only thing we require is a commitment to roleplaying. If nothing else, it's fun to just roll up a character - write up a role and description online to use in your next new D&D campaign. Or just to have a look at how our classes have become highly customized over the years. I have translated some of CF's unique class ideas to customize my own live games over the years. :) Our roots are in D&D though over the years things have highly evolved. Oh and anyone here new to the idea of MUDs (or has trouble finding a *good* one) but isn't tickled by CF, I can also recommend Armageddon (for the more hardcore roleplayers - set in the Darksun universe) and Genesis (for the more solo quest oriented - set in a variety of separate popular domains including Dragonlance, Earthsea, Tolkien and more). Both are also completely free and great games though I don't play them anymore. I can get the telnet addresses if anyone is interested. :)
