I was just flipping though my first edition book, the Rules Cyclopedia. There is an entire chapter about PC's bieng able to build there own village or keep or something once they reach a certain level. Is there any info out there on this for the third edition? Is there any planning for it in the fourth? And, is it possible for PC's to build a dominion.

In 3.x, there is the Stronghold Builder's Guide. It allows players to make a fortress, and has rules and costs for everything a player could ever want in a building.

That being said, there is no reason that you can't use the rules in your book in a current campaign, as I doubt that too much has changed overall. (I have never ever touched a 1ed book, not out of some sort of gleeful pride thing, but more along the lines I started playing D&D little less than 10 years total.)

Yes, it is very possible for PC's to build their own dominion...
I vaguely remember there being a book on building strongholds or some such thing, and I'm not even sure if it's for Third Edition, but it should give a good idea on costs and such if anyone can remember the name of it...

Good luck! ^_^

I started writing a response to this, but it turned into an essay, so I put it in my blog instead (http://www.gleemax.com/Comms/Pages/Communities/BlogPost.aspx?blogpostid=7936&pagemode=2&blogid=2136).

I think (especially given this points of light concept) it would be really good if the DMG or PHB had suggestion for rules geared towards the PCs to setting up a keep/village/Point Of Light. From there they could keep questing or it becomes the starting off point for the next campaign. I can recall a long running campaign (I cam in near the end) where the PCs had esentially developed an empire.

The first group set up a town. Then became patrons of several smaller groups who went out questing and set up a town paying fealty to their patorns, etc..

I think it would be most important to support the DM with information on how to change the campaign or deal with a player who doesn't to retire thier high-level even if the rest of the party is ready to start over again.

Very much related to this, I started a thread here (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=939199) on gold and how it's changed the tenor of the game by the changes of what you can spend it on...
