Celeberity DnD (We are not alone) [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-06-05, 09:00 PM From everyone's understanding, DnD has long roots, dating back to the 70's, being revamped in the 80's, working through the 90's and is here today- perhaps better than ever. Many a-nerd have come and go with the game, noticeably the 30 year old who still thrives in his basement or the geeks who rule the world as we know it.

However, people on the big screen and on the tube play(ed) the game too.

From what I know, there are 4 famous people who I've found play or played DnD. These are:

1. Vin Diesel (AKA looks like Regdar)
2. Dude from the scooby doo movies (shaggy) and Without a paddle
3. The singer from Nikelback, who said he remembered to make character sheets in his basement with his friends. It was on I love the 80's (forgot which year) I'm not sure if it was scripted or he really did play
4. Steven Colbert (you may know him as the lead reporter on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and his new show "The Colbert Report") who REALLY played it back when it first appeared.

I'm sure there are more celebs who played, but who? Does anyone know?

10-07-05, 11:09 AM I believe in addition to those you have named, there is also Robin Williams (voice actor/movie actor; but he was more of a WarHammer guy from what I hear) and Wil Wheton (Stand By Me, ST:tNG)...

There are probably more, I am sure I'm missing a few others I knew of earlier this year.

This reminds me. He probably never played, but I love that part in Airheads where Brendan Fraser's character admits that he played Dungeons & Dragons (among other geeky things) and then bows his head in shame. Then some rocker dude out in the crowd yells out, "Hey, I played D&D!" and like, every rocker there starts nodding his head.

Metal dudes love the game, man.

10-07-05, 05:17 PM As far as comedians go I know both Patton Oswald and David Cross have admited to not just playing in the past, but haveing a regular D&D group they currently play in. I don't know if they play in the same group, but if they do you know those would be some very funny sessions to sit in on.

In the film E.T., a scene near the beginning shows boys playing D&D in the kitchen. The game is not mentioned by name, because TSR refused to allow mention of the trademark when the movie was made.

The characters of Buffy the Vampire Slayer play a game of D&D in the series finale.

The Rona Jaffe novel Mazes and Monsters was inspired by the news stories about D&D players. The novel was later adapted into a film for television.

In the film SLC Punk the two main characters are preparing to play D&D in a flashback at the end of the film.

In an episode of Christina Applegate's series Jesse, she thinks she meets the perfect guy until he introduces her to his D&D group.

In the movie Airheads one of the characters mentions Dungeons & Dragons when addressing the crowd at the end.

A Saturday Night Live sketch entitled "Geek, Dweeb, or Spaz" where high school kids had to guess how geeky their classmates were featured guest host Emilio Estevez. At first his character seemed impossibly cool to be ruled a geek, until the game show host revealed he had been treasurer of the Dungeons & Dragons club at his old high school.

An episode of the cartoon series Dexter's Laboratory entitled "D&DD" features the characters playing D&D in which also Dexter claims to have a character named Gygax, the game's creator.

Dungeons & Dragons creator Gary Gygax appears in the Futurama episode "Anthology of Interest 1".

On a darker note, Charles Manson is rumored to have run a rather vicious D&D campaign in prison. Gamer mythology even alleges that he submitted a trap to the classic "Grimtooth's Traps" third-party gaming supplement.

10-12-05, 02:09 AM There is a movie called Scorched starring Rachael Leigh Cook, Paulo Costanzo, Woody Harrelson, Alicia Silverstone, John Cleese, & David Krumholtz. At one point in the movie, Rachael Leigh Cook is playing D&D. In fact, all through the movie, she has D&D fantacies where she's in a Xena-like outfit and either whipping daggers as her in-game rogue, "The Ripper", or tossing off fire balls. :drool: Rachael Leigh Cook as a geek babe in tight leather... :drool:

Old referance, Nightmare on elmstreet (i think it was three) the dreamwarriors has the "goodguys" playing D+D in the begining.
