Certainly an odd bunch. [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-06-07, 11:20 AM Right my team consists of a:
Lvl.3 Hound Archon Knight
Lvl.6 Githzerai Ranger
Lvl.(Not yet decided) Half-dragon Ninja
And two other characters yet to be made. None of them are going to have a basic race (Human, gnome, Elf etc.) So how do I start a story with them? I mean they can't just all meet in a tavern...

02-06-07, 11:44 AM One of the biggest problems many DMs have, and which they create for themselves, is believing that the story needs to begin with the PCs meeting each other for the first time when in fact in many ways this is the worst possible way to begin. There is nothing remotely interesting or heroic about awkward conversation and uncomfortable introductions.

At lvl 6+ these are already accomplished adventurers. Have them begin as a cohesive group, possibly with their own base of operations, and just carry on with the adventure.

02-06-07, 11:45 AM Let them figure it out. They're the ones who decided to play such obscure characters. Have them figure out a meeting scenario and get back to you.

02-06-07, 11:48 AM Well knowing their alignemt would help a lot. Also they should make a litle background. Im acostumed to work primaryl with the characters background even with pre made modules.But sure is a chalenge to make such a odd bunch met each other e make them keep together. So based only in their races and classes I would sugest this:
A great fire spreads in the forest that the rangers lives. Its a magical fire that seems impossible to stop by mundane means and vanish and reapears in diferent spots of the forest. The ranger seeks outside help in his quest so looking aid in the nearest good temple. There he founds the hound archon knight that will aid ranger a litle bit worried since githzerais are not a very trustworthty race. Meanwhile the half dragon ninja is tracking down a gang of githzerais rogues that stole a sacred relic of his daimyo. His investigation leads him to the forest with were the misterious wildfire are ocuring. During the night while the knight and the ranger are camping they are sudenly atacked by the githzerai gang and a pair of fire elementals.The ninja that was following the two apears from the shadows and helps in the confrontation against the githzerai. After the batle its up to players to make their own conclusions.
