| roguebfl07-10-04, 03:44 AM | I could use some help The Harper Paragon requires the Vow of Obediance. I have a a CG rogue thes looking to come into it via the Harper Scout. But I was wondering how such a vow would interact with the ferasly indvilustic were-cat she is. and for a rogue 2 feats is 'expensive' (esp for a TWF) so I want to carfull before going this route and could really do with some feedback please  |
| Callista07-10-04, 09:48 AM | Well... the fact that this character is considering taking a vow of obedience may just indicate that she isn't so chaotic after all. You can be individualistic and still stay within the bounds of law--I'd call that neutral, if anything. Consider an alignment change, for flavor if nothing else... |
| Hagglefoot07-14-04, 01:50 AM | With Chaotic anything that requires obediance doesn't happen, Neutral or lawful yes, but chaotic is a definate not, the only obediance a chaotic has is obediance to his/her self, and to their stomachs. :) Hagglefoot Thighripper "Bloody, bloody, bloody, damn that idiot left a MESS!!!!" |
| roguebfl07-14-04, 02:15 AM | the funny thing is I have allwas seen the Harpers anda CG organisation. why would ther Exalted PrC be so contry? :looloo: |
| sparkster424207-14-04, 04:26 AM | i see nothing wrong with a chaotic individual behaving consistently (making a vow and sticking with it, for instance). a chaotic person is perfectly well capable of acting consistently -- its being required or forced to act in a particular fashion that offends them. as long as he is acting according to his own desires, a chaotic person can do pretty much anything they want -- its the freedom to make that choice he values, not necessarily breaking-rules-for-the-fun-of-it. of course, the obnoxious selfish unpredictable kender-wannabe can _also_ be chaotic -- the alignments are quite versatile like that. |
| Pagan priest07-14-04, 03:35 PM | I think that in this case the vow would be to an individual, someone the chaotic person held in high esteme. A vow of obediance to an institution would be lawful. |
| Objulen07-15-04, 12:54 AM | If the chaotic character is making the will of his own free will for his own reasons, I see no reason why it would conflict with the chaotic aspect of his alignment as long as the harpers do not try to push him around too much and they don't do anything that violates his sensabilities, especially if he's CG. If they do, he will probably drop them like a bad habit, since the CG character generally follows his/her own sensabilities first and always, and would probably see that as an inherent (and might even state such openly) part of the oath; i.e. I vow to be obidiant as long as... type of vow. |
| Pagan priest07-16-04, 01:36 PM | "I vow to be obediant, as long as you don't try to order me around."   Gods, I've had players like that. |
| Objulen07-17-04, 11:56 PM | To a certain degree, that is exactly what a chaotic character would do. A chaotic character would pledge alegance to something he/she invested her personal loyalties into for whatever reasons, but if the person or organization she pledged her-/him- self to violated her beliefs too much she would probably leave. That doesn't mean that he/she wouldn't take orders, but he/she would only take orders that agreed with her personal beliefs. |
| Princeoflowlight07-19-04, 11:31 PM | Pagan Priest has the right of it, IMHO I don't think obedience is too much of a stretch for a CG character, as long as it's to an individual. Maybe there's a ranking Harper that your character has grown to truly respect and trust the judgement of. If you're a Discworld reader, consider the relationship between Vimes(CG if there's even been CG) and Vetinari. CG characters can be respectful and obedient, but it would have to be based on merit alone. |
