Edymnion 08-04-06, 06:43 PM	Okay, an idea I blatantly stole from another board for another gaming system. "Trading Cards" for your characters as a kind of miniature character sheet. For, say, conventions when carrying around an entire book of your characters to play isn't feasable, or just for the cool factor with your friends. :) http://www.geocities.com/edymnion3/DnD/DnDCardFront.jpg http://www.geocities.com/edymnion3/DnD/DnDCardBack.jpg Here's a quicky example card I whipped up to show how it would look. http://www.geocities.com/edymnion3/DnD/DarwinCardFront.jpg All you would do is make the card up, then print them out. If you have a printer that can do cardstock, boom, instant character card. Otherwise, poster board is easy to get, just trim a piece down to card size, glue these on, and grab some el-cheapo press on laminant. What could be cooler for a new DM than to whip out a deck of your character cards to choose from for the game? :D

I like the idea, words cannot describe the exaple (see above smilies), just three questions: 1) Where do you place the treasure you gain during that gaming session 2) What if you are a multi-class and 3) Why haven't you submitted it to wizards yet?
Dragon Snack 08-05-06, 10:28 AM	Interesting. I think I would be frustrated by lack of space though. An actual notebook doesn't take up that much room to keep you from carrying it around at a Con. Nice work at any rate. Don't Warforged take a -2 to Wisdom? Edy, you power-gamer... ;)
kirellagen 08-05-06, 10:59 AM	My only suggestion is to put a place for Race somewhere on the front, because it's rather important and sometimes hard to tell from a picture. (Especially when someone doesn't have your skills) :P

I hear 4e combat will be all card based, where you have to buy random booster packs in order to build a killer deck to fight with. There won't be any more classes, since WotC won't need them to stuff into suppliments as filler anymore, there will just be more cards with things like "Sword Attack +5" or "Magic Missle +4". If you wanna play a wizard, you just load up on magic spell cards, fighters load up on armor and weapon cards, it'll be a blast! Each new $35, 25 page book will come with one whole card you can add to your deck! But I better shut up now, before the WotC Ninjas break down my door. ;)

Wyrmul 08-05-06, 12:59 PM	A friend of mine used to hand make buisness card character sheets that he would take to conventions. That way he always had a handful of characters to draw on to play with.
Seldriss 08-05-06, 01:23 PM	All these ideas are pretty good, and the OP card is well made. But as someone mentioned, it might lack some information. I would recommend more space for the feats and skills. I made an attempt in this direction a while ago, with a folded letter sheet, looking like a small booklet of four pages. That smaller than a regular sheet, but still smaller, then easy to use at the table.

It isn't supposed to be a full blown character sheet, its supposed to be the "bare essentials" needed for a quick-play character. Things like Race and Alignment are not really needed to play the character (although, I would personally put them under Description, along with things like height and weight, or under Misc). I mean, there's obviously not as much room on these cards as there is a full character sheet, so you have to pare it down to just what you would need to play.Awesome, can i get a photoshop template of those? Perhaps apic of an elven archer, or a black haired female warmage?I made them in Paintshop Pro 7, but it says it'll save to photoshop format, so sure, I'll convert it all to rastor layers (the original work is in vector format, but if you don't have the fonts I used, it won't be able to read the text properly, so I just converted). Its layered, mainly a background layer and a layout layer, although the front side of the card has a middle layer for the portrait to go on (so it sits under the anti-aliased boxes all nice and neat).
