We have been using the older 3.0 WotC program and fixing ssues on char sheats, but I started using PCGen. (which looks like the best contender, there was another good one, but prints like crap)

It seems overly complex so I am hoping someone can help me out a little.

1. I don't see a WotC 3.5 core, closest is the SRD 3.5, can I get WotC core? We want to match the 3.5 core books we have so there isn't any "well book says x issues.

2. I am not seeing a lot of common magic items such as armor +1, weapon +2, etc.

3. How to add custom magic items.

4. Any tips as a player or DM?

Once again, thank you all in advance.

I, personally, use HeroForge. (Which certain aspects of WotC appear to use too.)

Sorry, no can do. The System Reference Document (SRD) is all you're going to find. That's all that is available for public access. There may have been a WotC core when PCGen still had the license, but they certainly won't have it now. That said, the SRD covers all but a few key tables and monsters.

I think you may have to build them somehow, but it's been a long time since I've used PCGen (since it also runs incredibly slow on my machine. I think building custom items is the same.

I use HeroForge as well. And if it doesn't do it automatically you can usually override it.

I love eTools. I always output as HTML and make changes as needed. Unfortunately, It's not sold or supported any longer. Those of us that have it can continue to use what we got.

For examples of etools in action check out my site in my siggy.

The only thing that any publisher can use is the SRD. Note that the SRD doesn't have everything that the core three books have (beholders, illthids, certain spell names are changed).

Find any item in the gear section and right click on it and select "Customize"

3. How to add custom magic items.

Here it depends on your level of complexity, simple items are easily made by finding a similar item and customize it and rename it. If it gets terribly more complex you'll need to work outside PCGen using a plain text editor (ie Notepad, BBEdit etc.) and the documentation. There's also a yahoo group setup just to help people create their own custom items. It's here (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PCGenListFileHelp/) and our main mailing list is here (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pcgen/)

4. Any tips as a player or DM?

Be prepared for the unexpected?

Once again, thank you all in advance.

I was refearing to using the pcgen/DMgen of the program while playing.

No offince, but about using those groups for help, for some reason they say its a crime to help me add classes/skills from books I bought. And it is rather stupid that I can't ask someone who added what I am about to add, and save me a lot of time.

I've also done this as well.
