My char is a human barbarian that has really come into his own. i have played him for a little over a year and I love how he has developed (I did not pre-plan his advancement like many people do, I chose appropriate skills and abilities according to his "life lessons" in the adventure). He is still a straight Barbarian (level 12 now), but with an impressive array of skills. Raised in Hammer and Anvil (great rift) sice he was 14, he has a very strong connection with the Gold Dwarves (taught to think tactics and battle strategy by a surrogate father) with a smattering of two-handed weapon work from a wood elf ranger with nothing to do for a couple years (likely needed a place to lay low for awhile-poacher). Long story short (sorry). My char has begun to attract the attention of Moradin (I realize its rare for a human but look at his history). I am faced with the choice of becoming one of his Favoured Souls in coming levels. Any thoughts??? Advice???

Unless your getting something else special I wouldn't do it.

"something special"? what do you mean. his barbarian level is high enough to be able to support a level change and still be a tank, but you think the favoured soul option is no good? (it's a little bit of a DM power play)

Sounds cool, I like organic character growth. :)

If it makes sense when it happens, go for it. The clerical spells will be useful, no domains or Turning, but you'll get Proficiency(which you already have) with Warhammer and eventually focus & specialization with it. (well, focus at least, no specialization unless you go Epic) Energy resistance (probably acid, eing a strongly earth aligned diety) will be a nice bonus on top of your DR. If your DM's nice he might let you take the Favored Soul's weaponry as one of the Dwarven racial weapons, instead of the Warhammer, but I wouldn't bank on it.

I'm another fan of organic character growth.

Me too. I say if it's in story and you like it, go with it.

Favored soul lacks a lot of what a cleric gets, but it builds well with fighter types. Sort of like the cleric-to-fighter equivalent of a warmage.
