Sarella Starshine 08-08-06, 02:18 PM	PCGen is great, does a lot of the math for you, but you still need to pick skills, feats, gear, etc. but when you do pick them, it will calculate all the numbers for you, though there are some numbers they have set to default that make you scratch your head (i.e. default for ride is -5 (the penalty for riding without a saddle, however, buy a saddle, and it gets removed) until you read the rules and figure out how they acctually got the numbers they do. plus as a bonus, it has the complete SRD included, or you can go to code monkey and they have licenced WotC (and several other non core publishers) data sets for PCGen (think atm they have every WotC book up to dec 2005)

FireOpal 08-08-06, 07:30 PM	Personally, our group has liked the HeroForge version better than PCgen. It is quite user friendly, and does much of the annoying calculating for you. You can also download SpellForge. Probably not perfect, but it works well with our Eberron game, and this link should get you the HeroForge 4.0.4 which works with 3.5. http://www.carybishop.net/Heroforge.htm

Amaril 08-09-06, 09:29 AM	You should also be aware of two additional peices of information: 1. Codemokey Publishing sells data sets of official WotC content for use in PCGen. 2. PCGen is as slow as molasses in winter.

You are correct - it requires Exce (and is the reason why it is very powerful - it makes full use of Excel's power, and allows people to write their own formulas if desired) Excel 2000 or later will support The Only Sheet.
