Character made of Templates [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-13-07, 03:15 PM In my current game the DM has advised us to keep a back up character on hand in case our active character dies. Most of the group made back up characters that would become their dead characters replacement. I however plan to have my character raised so the back up character will only be around for a short time. Because I don’t plan to have Mr. Backup around for very long I figure I can do something interesting with him.

I want to make a level 1 human bard, but add templates to make him the equivalent of a level 5 character. So I submit to the DnD board think tank this challenge. Using only LA+1, and LA+2 templates what templates would you add?

They need to be legal, and I need to know where they come from so I can use them. I have a ton of books and usually don’t need much of an excuse to get another one, so go nuts. :)

+2 LA, +3 (for natural) LA = +5 LA.

[or a Fiendish Lycanthrope...if you'd rather... ;) ]

There's a problem with that. The Lycanthrope template requires that you also take animal HD. An inflicted 1st level human bard werewolf is ECL 5. (1 class, 2 racial HD, 2 LA)

11-14-07, 01:11 AM How about a Pixie? LA +4 (the Fey HD gets replaced with the class level), great Charisma, and some very nifty abilities. Plus, with Invisibility and DR, you might actually survive having 1 HD in a 5th level game.

Or if you want to go bard, play an Half-Fey (LA +2, Fiend Folio) Phrenic (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/psionicMonsters.html#phenric-creature) (LA +2, XPH) human. A net +8 Charisma, wings, a few spell-like and psionic-like abilities, DR 5/Cold Iron, Power (Spell) Resistance.
And just for the sake of it, use a lesser aasimar as base race for another freackin +2 charisma!

11-14-07, 12:33 PM I'm going to be the unoriginal one of the lot and suggest the Half-Celestial template from the MM. LA+4 gets you (among other things) +4 Cha (good for your spells and songs), natural armor, DR and spell resistance.... Your bard would have a fair chance of surviving with this template too.

That, and wings are kinda fun :D
