| DreadArchon02-19-07, 04:29 PM | Links found here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/charactersheets). Is there a non-PDF version of the "Revised D&D v.3.5 character sheet (363k pdf/zip)" from the link above? I'd like to make a similar version with a couple of specific revisions, but I don't have the ability to edit PDF's. |
| Montravont02-19-07, 04:41 PM | if you have a scanner... just print it... and then scan it in as a picture and edit it in another program? |
| IceFractal02-19-07, 10:53 PM | Or just capture the screen for the image. |
| Seeker9502-20-07, 08:57 AM | Skip the WotC version and go to the fully editable versions found at Mad Irishman (http://www.unc.edu/~murphy/mad_irishman/) and Ema's Sheets (http://www.emass-web.com/). |
| Jersey Cowboy02-20-07, 09:09 AM | It'd be nice to see Wizards put up editable charsheets. Or, well, sheets for the other base classes that haven't been given any attention. Tome Of Magic, Tome Of Battle, Dragon Magic, Dungeonscape, etc etc etc. Although the dilemma is beginning that one set type of charsheet might not be enough, as more characters become multi-classed and whatnot. Maybe a charsheet that was editable where you could print a page that had, say, info on the top half for psychic warriors, and on the bottom half for warblades, or some such thing. That'd be really useful. I'm almost tempted to print out a bunch of the charsheets that are in existence and just cut and paste the parts I need, then scan it back in! |
| Boraxe02-20-07, 11:16 AM | The problem with editable versions is that most people do not have the software with which the sheets were originally created. |
| theotherdraxen02-20-07, 11:36 AM | I've edited the wizards character sheets by capturing the image in Adobe and then pasting it in Word. If you can find all the right letters, you can even make new colums. The back of mine has Feats, Special Abilities, Languages, and Notes. Just copy and paste in Paint. You might have to fiddle around with your printer settings to get it to print on one page, though. |
| DreadArchon02-20-07, 11:56 AM | Skip the WotC version and go to the fully editable versions found at Mad Irishman (http://www.unc.edu/~murphy/mad_irishman/) and Ema's Sheets (http://www.emass-web.com/). Um, they're PDF's. That's the same format as the WotC version. That said: Or just capture the screen for the image. :embarrass Wow. Yeah, that would be the obvious solution, wouldn't it? |
| Seeker9502-20-07, 01:57 PM | Um, they're PDF's. That's the same format as the WotC version.Don't roll your eyes at me. They are editable PDFs. That is why I used the words "fully editable" in my suggestion that you try them. :sheesh: |
| Boraxe02-20-07, 02:01 PM | Don't roll your eyes at me. They are editable PDFs. That is why I used the words "fully editable" in my suggestion that you try them. :sheesh: Actually, they're not. Mad Irishman's sheets have password protection which specifically disallows editing the sheet's layout and contents. |
| Seeker9502-20-07, 04:56 PM | Actually, they're not. Mad Irishman's sheets have password protection which specifically disallows editing the sheet's layout and contents. The passwords are to protect the field arrangements. But the sheet itself is fillable and editable. Further, his form layout has layers that lets you suppress almost every field. Which is what the OP is trying to do. |

By "editable" I believe the OP was talking about moving sections around, adding sections, taking sections away, etc., not just filling them out digitally. |
| Seeker9502-20-07, 09:18 PM | Boraxe, are you reading the entirety of any of my posts? |
| Boraxe02-21-07, 10:59 AM | Boraxe, are you reading the entirety of any of my posts? Yes, what's your point? Yes you can edit and customize the contents of MI's sheet based on the parameters he has put in place, but you cannot change the layout of the sheet which is was I assumed the OP was asking. If I want to take the entire feats section of Mad Irishman's sheet and move it to another page, for example, I can't. Actually I can cos I've found a way around the copy protection, but the point is that most people can't. ;) |
| DreadArchon02-21-07, 01:47 PM | Don't roll your eyes at me. They are editable PDFs. That is why I used the words "fully editable" in my suggestion that you try them. :sheesh: So what should I edit them with? I repeat:  (Yeah, the answer is "MSPaint," but that applies to the WotC versions as well.) |
| Seeker9502-21-07, 02:25 PM | So what should I edit them with?Have you tried opening Mad Irishman's PDFs with Acrobat Reader (it's free) or your browser with Acrobat Reader built in? You don't need the full blown Adobe Acrobat to use his editable PDFs. |
| Boraxe02-21-07, 02:26 PM | So what should I edit them with? I repeat:  (Yeah, the answer is "MSPaint," but that applies to the WotC versions as well.) I think you need to be more specific about what you mean by "editing" as this is causing some confusion. Do you wish to fill them out digitally, customize some text and labels, or rearrange the layout the sheets? |
| gorckat02-21-07, 02:41 PM | I'd like to make a similar version with a couple of specific revisions, but I don't have the ability to edit PDF's. My reading of that means, for example, to swap the location of the weapon and armor sections. Or add a custom section in place of an existing on. I prefer to use Word and its built-in Table tool to build sheets. If you have access to Publisher, I believe that would let you create Tables in Word to arrange on a sheet as you see fit...in other words- make all the individual sections you want, then arrange them as desired rather than trying to get the Table layout just right. The Table tool can be a pain, but I find doing a rough draft with pencil and paper to help immensely as far as lining up columns and setting up blank 'spacer' rows. |
| INSOC02-27-07, 03:47 AM | Have you tried opening Mad Irishman's PDFs with Acrobat Reader (it's free) or your browser with Acrobat Reader built in? You don't need the full blown Adobe Acrobat to use his editable PDFs. I have Reader 7.0, and I am unable to fill in any of the blanks on the Mad Irishman's forms... Or have I missed the point of this request? I figured out how to edit the layers, but I would like to type in my stats and name and such... What am I missing, or did I miss the boat? :) |
| Aiwen02-27-07, 04:54 PM | i'm making my own character sheet for my group at the moment, i'm using microsoft office publisher to draw up the sheets and then i can convert it into a pdf from there. is going well so far but i could use some sugestions on 'what you want from a character sheet'. i'v had the request of a box to draw a character sketch from one of my players so i was thinking of creating a discription page. all sugestions well apreciated. |

Best option is to ignore all pre-published sheets. Sit down and make a list, in order of importance and how often you access the information, of all the stuff you need on a sheet based on how you and your group play. Once you have prioritized this info get a few blank sheets of paper and roughly sketch out the placement of various areas on the sheet using your list as a guide. Only once you have the information prioritized and the layout planned should you go digital. |
