I plan to make a dungeon based around playtesting a character someone has made, or plans to make. I'm going to make it so that it can be played with a DM, or so a player can play it themselves. It'll be designed a little like the Gauntlet in Baulder's Gate: Dark Alliance in which Drizz't has to make it out in time, so he can be a playable character; but only in the way it's set up. XP

It'll also have edits for how many members are in the party, and instructions on how to play enemies!

I need to know about what you all think would be some good things to include in it, and what is a definate must for any playtest dungeon. Tell me whatever you think would be a good general thing that you would enjoy playing. ;) It'll have a little bit of everything in it, like defeating enemies, getting past traps, getting through/around doors, and puzzles!

In the future, I might designate this the infiltration/battle scenario, and make another for survival (which includes going through town, venturing into wilderness, and such (DM required for this one, though...) ).

So go ahead and give me some ideas of what you would want to be included in this, and I'll consider what I can! :D

Use doors who can only open when you solve (not too difficult) riddles?

That might work... though it wouldn't emphasize on the character, but more on the player. Nice idea though!

just like the test of high wizardry in dragonlance, you should make a test of the chacarcter's alignment, puting both edges once against another (do the good thing or the lawfull thing? the bad thing or the one that brigns more chaos?) and a moment of drama, like the player having to fight a too vivid illusion of his most beloved companion.

It reminds me of a 1st edition AD&D module where the party had to answer 3 riddles in order to get the sweat off of a magical rock, something that was a quest item. Actually, you could make it the BBEG at the end of a campaign - after defeating guards of a mystical "Place Item Here", the "Place Item Here" makes them answer three riddles in order to get the quest item.

Testing the character for what ? Good dice rolls ? Superior min/maxing ?

In any event, a good dungeon should, IMO, contain a bit of everything:

Some combat encounters
Some neutral encounters that will mainly react to the PC's
Some friendly encounters (or at least encounters that are likely to be friendly)
A hostile encounter that is above the immediate capabilities of the party to handle, without very clever tactics or reinforcements
Traps
Tricks
Empty rooms
A puzzle or riddle somewhere (can be tied to any of the above)
