Ever get to the point when your running a game and you realize that the characters your friends are playing are so rediculously powerfull that even epic level creatures have a tough time dealing them damage. my friends are running 3 characters eace and i am running two in this game. the game has gone on for about 4 years now and i am having to create characters so that there is some sort of counter to there spells and attacks. if anyone has some powerfull characters you could post or suggestions it would be appreciated. (i have already tried killing some of the characters off but they just get resurected and that is getting harder and harder to do).

thanks :D

Five prismatic great wyrms, five force great wyrms, and a level 30 wizard who likes dimensional lock and trap the soul. Done.

Scale up and down power level at will.

I have had this problem in the past, although not to the extent that your group has reached. here are a few methods I used.

1.) A party is less effective without their toys, like James Bond, or Batman. I invented a villain who worked against the destructive influences of magic by using "mordenkin's disjunction" grenades. Sadly my party destroyed him before he even had the chance to use them and they got some more toys

2.) If you just want the game to continue, with some threat to the pcs, toss them against themselves from another dimension or invent lots of villains with many character levels.

3.) If your tired of this party, and you want a blank slate, simply drag them into a long repetitive dungeon crawl, and when someone leaves for extended holidays (at least a month) create a new 'temporary' campaign 'just until he/she gets back. Use all of the cool story lines that you've been dying to try, and soon this will be your primary campaign!

I'd say if you want to retire, offer your PCs this: One big final adventure, after which all the heroes retire.

Then, start another campaign, but put mentions of what the player's did from NPCs and such.

Very few players would turn down that offer.

Absolutely. Players love their past PCs being a legend.

Or have their PCs replace the current pantheon and start over in a world that's under the tyrrannical thumb... er... in the benevolent hands of their own characters.

The retirement idea sounds reasonable.

But if it were me, I'd give them one final, insanely difficult quest. Maybe they have to actually go into the Far Realm (where the laws of reality cease to function, perhaps their weapons, spells, and magic items don't work right either). While there, they can obtain some of the primordal essence of existance and gain a spark of divinity. When they get back to the Prime- they're Gods.

Now you can have them write up a short bit as to how they'd like their God Characters to be- portfolios, domains, dogma, etc. And volia, you have an up and coming religion for the next campaign.

Adamantine golem with a chest cavity containing a high level demilich.
The kicker is the Enlarged Antimagic Field aura.

Unless they have butloads of supernatural abilities, they probably can't even harm the golem body, since most magical weapons will become nonmagical, and be unable to overcome the DR.

If they're using epic magic to overcome the antimagic field, use an epic antimagic field. Matter of fact, use several overlapping epic antimagic fields. With some MDJ thrown in periodically.

The same idea works for non epic parties, but just stick to iron golems with antimagic fields.

Yes, I am a bastard.

Doesn't get much bigger than this one. (http://www.3edb.com/viewCharacter.asp?cid=8416)
Sometimes I make up characters/BBEGs when I'm bored.

I must admit i like the idea of them being retired. so i have come up with a plan. im thinking of making one last great war between mulhorand and thay. all of their characters are from mulhorand so it should be interesting. i was also reading The Lost Empires of Ferune and found a level 26 Balor in there that has swarn death to mulhorand and all its inhabitants when he is finaly released. so i think im going to run with that and see what turns up. what ya think?

I'm not terribly familiar with Epic stuff, but I always thought that an Antimagic Field negated even Supernatural abilities.

You're correct.

Retirement is a good idea at this point, Syphon, and your plan is a really good one. Make the final "episode" really dramatic; then, in the next campaign, make sure you name drop their PC's names. Have a bard singing tales about them, have an NPC who actually worships one of them, etc.

Whoops. Never came up in any of my games, so I never checked. Guess that makes the Golem of Antimagic even more dangerous. Thanks. Does kinda screw over the demilich inside the golem, but at least he can still try to cast epic spells, and order the golem around.

Make a Gloura Blackguard Monk. The Touch AC will be beyond 60 and all saves beyond 40. And thats if you make a pre-epic one.

a small army of 300 level 1 wizards with magic missles readied.

ive found that 25 level 1 wizards will scare even a level 15 character.

I see your problem.

My character is a friend of a mohrg with around 30-40 hit dice. Thing is, I'm 8th level, and I only fail the paralyzing fortitude save on natural 1's. I could duel him, but he'd slaughter me with regular combat.

pit them against each other. take something that the party seems to be split on, and they just dont talk about, and make it the main point of the campaign. they will all have to fight for what they believe even if that means conflicting with the other party members. once they get into a fight and some of them kill each other, then you dont have to worry about them being ressurected, as the people who used to do the resurrecting are now the ones who killed them.

or just make a monster than can "eat souls" therefore if someone dies cause of it, then they cant be resurrected cause the soul is gone.
