I was wanting some info from some players not of my group. Tell me what you think make a character memorable. What makes them SO unique that no one you play with will ever forget the character?

A memorable character trait is one way to get remebered. For example, perhaps your character has a stutter or a lisp? Maybe he limps when he walks? Some things like that add extra spice :D
Another way to get remebered is by using exotic combinations that haven't been done before. A bard who becomes a paladin for example, is exotic enough to be remebered.
Probably the best I can think of right now is a heroic death. You could have your paladin make the last stand against demon invaders to allow time for the rest of the PCs to escape and close the portal behind them.

Well a few of my characters that have been constantly brought up (for better and worse) by my fellow gamers, have always had something about them that the group either found annoying, or enjoyed.

Leon Campelle: elven fighter/wizard, was a real leader type, was kinda egotistical but he always got the job done

Gnershwyn Ognem(thegnomishwizard): gnomish wizard, spoke with a lisp, he pronounced the 'gn' sound in words like gnome, and gnoll

Ace: elven, bard, rather flamboyant fighting style that was found to be annoying

most memorable character for me, although neither me nor my friend who came up with him have got a chance to play him...

Human fighter who can perform the most amazing tasks outside of combat(shoot an apple off someones head at 200 feet, walk accross 50' of tight rope with no net), but panicks as soon as hes in combat and runs away (a character trait we came up with, action outside of combat have a +10, but panicks easily if attacked). It would so hilarious to play him, waiting for one of our campaigns to end so that i can try him.

ther than that specific example, anice duel between your character and a cool npc always works, i myself just defeated a wizard/fighter from inside my jail cell without touching him(don't ask how),then escaped from the cell and cut his head off , when my companions arrived to rescue me i was sitting in a chair waiting for them, it looked like i escaped from my cell, took the guys sword and killed him in one hit, it was great.

Also try a class that doesn't suit your race, and make it work. TRy 1/2orc bard, 1/2ling fighter who doesn't use thrown weapons.

sorry if this isn't along the lines of what you were looking for, but i tried :)

It is often the case that characters start looking alike. The most memorable characters for me are the ones that really stick out in a BIG way. Monster races, weird decisions, just damn good role-playing by the player, those responsible for an incredible act of good/evil/something.

In any way ... characters that are totally different from the person that plays them.

A few characters i remember well from my 10 years of playing D&D:

-A character who was a schizo
-A character that always went left when presented by a choice of paths
-The first monster character
-Characters that die heroic deaths ... or clumsy deaths (Bram .... he's drowning!! save him!!!)
-A character with immense restrictions put on by a religion (for instance "Thou shalt not kill [humans])
-etc....

The characters that are most memorable are those with interests outside of the actual adventures themselves.
