After the VAGUE mention of this figure in Expedition to Castle Ravenloft, I figured I'd come here after an exhaustive search turned up nothing.

My players are inquisitive. Very inquisitive.

When they ask me what this guy looks like, is doing, ETC....

Am I supposed to go by the spatterings of what the book says. "Err, he's staying in his circle. No wait, he came out." or what?

I've scowered my vast collection of D&D books, and can't find so much as a mention of this demon.

Can anyone help???

Chernobog. A demon/god in the Ptolus campaign setting. One of the twelve, who were sealed away... think Cthulu, but less insane. I think he was a god of lust and gluttony.
Actually, you might be talking about something completely different, but I'm sure both gods are based off the historic one:

Yeah I'm not sure what the heck they were thinking when they plodded this demon thing in the book without offering ANYTHING else than his stats and the fact that witches are raising him.

I study the occult a lot so the name sounded familiar (Not to mention that Disney used the name as well.)

Do a google search on Chernabog. You will get lots of ideas for your players. I wrote something up on him, but it doesn't exactly match what's in EtCR. I can't seem to find it right now though :(

All I can think of is the Fantasia sequence.. >_<

Yeah I figured if I needed too I'd just write something up, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something somewhere.

Figure from the description I'll make him somewhat of an evil nature figure.

Heh, I'm running EtCR too but my players didn't bite even a little bit on the Chernovog line. Fine by me since I wasn't using that as one of the plot movers and haven't done any work on it. There's a lot of off-the-chart stuff in EtCR but I've been trying to keep the game focused on Strahd.

I notice EttDP, has gone even further in this direction, giving inquisitive players and inventive DMs a lot of offshoot opportunities...planar door to somewhere you never heard of, make it up berk.
