Forgotten Realms has Waterdeep... Eberron has Sharn... and each of these cities have a dedicated book each.......... however, do any other books exist? is it only Waterdeep and Sharn? Is there such a thing as, say, a Neverwinter book? if not, where can I acquire additional city-based information? thanks in advance for responses!!

Although I don't believe it has been updated to 3rd edition LANKHMAR: City of Adventure presents another detailed city setting.

1. Cities of Fantasy, a three book series by Mongoose Publishing (one's an orc controlled city, the second's an illusion-heavy city, and the last is a legendary city)

2. Scarred Lands' Hallowfaust: City of Necromancers

3. Look out for Necromancer Games' Wilderlands of High Fantasy, not yet released.

4. And check out Wizards's guide to building a city quickly, here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20030719a).

If you want an indepth guide to Neverwinter from the Forgotten Realms you can't beat Volo's Guide to the North. It's a 2nd edition sourcebook so you'll have to convert NPC's but it's good stuff, maps galore! You also won't find anything relating to the NWN CRPG game. You can download it either from wizards (for free I think) or if not then RPGnow.com for $5 in .pdf format.

Dungeon Masters Guide II has a city in there too. Saltmarsh. It is not, however, recommended by me. Not enough details. There is also Shackled City, but it's a campaign.

There is also the Forgotten Realms "Volo's guide to...." series that are available free on wizard's classic downloads page.

Though not dedicated to one city, but gives details on many cities (ie: shops, taverns, inns, etc.) of a region.
This may not be what you are looking for, but hey, it's free. :)

Look out for Necromancer Games' Wilderlands of High Fantasy, not yet released.Um... It's been released for ages. As has City State of the Invincible Overlord.

I believe Freeport has a book for it.

Yeah, Wilderlands has been out for at lest a year, so has City State of the Invincible Overlord.

Other good city books to adapt/use?

Bard's Gate
Lost City of Barakus (Endhome)
Mithril
The Grey Citadel module, the city has become a campaign favorite of mine.

A good number of others.

You really need to be willing to check out the 3rd party publishers, they are really good. Especially Necromancer Games, Green Ronin, and Goodman Games. There are a bunch of others too. Expeditious Retreat Press is another exceptional one to look at.

WOTC is not the only kid on the block, and not always the best either.
Spread your horizons! :)

If you're willing to take the time to search, there is are several 2.0 sourcebooks that give a lot more info.

For example, there's Volo's Guide(s) to: Cormyr (Suzail) / The Dalelands (Shadowdale) / The North (Silverymoon/Neverwinter/Luskan) / The Sword Coast (Baldur's Gate).

As well as several other locations with their own specific sourcebooks, such as Calimport and Raven's Bluff.

Greyhawk: The Adventure Begins details the Free City of Greyhawk with minimal crunch.

If we are talking about D&D cities nothing beats Sigil. Sigil makes those other cities look like backwater villages :P

IIRC the books Caged and Uncaged discussed Sigil and it's inhabitants. You can find more info on the Planescape boards or Planewalker.com

There are quite a few good cities published under AD&D rules. I recomend the City of Greyhawk boxed set and Lanhkmar, the latter being the best city supplement to any roleplay game I eve read.
