| Wastelander7512-23-06, 10:57 AM | I am running a D&D game here in Northern Va and I was woundering if anyone knew where or how I can get the stats of the Madusa from the movie?Or how would one make one.I am basing most of my cretaures off the greek myth/roman myths.Well thanx for any help. | Seeker9512-23-06, 11:37 AM | What is wrong with the medusa stats in D&D? The medusa is a greek mythological figure, making both the movie and the game derivative of the myth. At best, add a few archer levels to her. |
| DrMorganes12-23-06, 12:10 PM | If you're looking for stats on THE Medusa, rather than A medusa, you may have to crunch the numbers yourself. Liberties taken with Greek myth by Clash of the Titans aside, this Encyclopedia Mythica article (http://www.pantheon.org/articles/p/perseus.html) mentions quite a lot of stuff about her. Essentially, however, you'll looking at a near-divine (or divine, depending on which legends you use) creature cursed by the gods themselves. You could simply take a standard medusa (http://srd.pbemnexus.com/monstersMtoN.html#medusa) and apply the "of legend" modifiers from Savage Species. However, this is likely to just make her bigger, with more HP, better AC and AB, etc. To go for a truly memorable monstrous encounter with a tragic figure cursed by the gods, you'll need to craft your own version. Some ideas: Boost the DC on her Petrifying Gaze. Fort 15 just isn't enough for Medusa herself! If you're going for the "must use mirrors or be stoned" effect, go DC 30 or more. Alternately, rule that no save is possible: such is the horror of her form if you look directly upon her face, you're petrified! If you keep the snakelike body (which was NOT part of Greek myth!), add a Constrict attack and possibly a Tail Slap. A decent Attack Bonus with her bow. It should be enchanted in some nasty manner, perhaps with a CON- or DEX- reducing poison effect. Some spell-like abilities, perhaps. Take a page from the succubus, perhaps. Just a few ideas off the top of my head. |
| Wastelander7512-23-06, 01:19 PM | My thing I am tring to figure how to set her up with the snake body.So they could make a listen check to see ifd they hear the rattle of her tail. |
| Seeker9512-23-06, 02:39 PM | Half-Medusa / Half Yuan-ti And lots of ranger levels specializing in archery. |
| Wastelander7512-23-06, 05:53 PM | That is what I am talking about, what do you think the CR would be for her?I have plans for the party to sail to the ruins of Minoa with rummors of a great Libary there from the time of the First age.Island creatures will be a 2-headed Worg,Skeletons and of course Medusa |
| questionc12-23-06, 07:17 PM | Pick a CR first, and then build her around that. |
| exodusGM12-24-06, 09:18 AM | I thought this thread was about whether Venus and Cupid with a Partridge could kick Danea and the Shower of Gold's butt... I was wrong. Darn it. If anyone does have a battle-thread about other renaissance painters, let me know. |

| DebiHuman12-28-06, 04:33 PM | Isn't there a "greater medusa" which is essentially the snake-bodied medusa from AD&D that was converted in the Tome of Horrors? I don't know if there is an "official version" anywhere. Debby |
| caeruleus12-28-06, 06:50 PM | what do you think the CR would be for her? If this is supposed to be the main villian of an adventure, I'd say the CR should be about 2 higher than the average party level when they meet her. |
| DebiHuman12-28-06, 09:12 PM | This is from the Enworld site: MEDUSA, Greater The greater medusa appears as the standard medusa but has a serpentine lower body. The snake torso is 5-10 feet long. Use the stats for the standard medusa (Medusa, page 131 in the MM) with the following additions. Large Monstrous Humanoid Hit Dice: 8d8+8 (44 hp) AC: 17 (-1 size, +2 Dex, +6 natural) Special Attacks: Poisonous blood Special Qualities: SR 12 Challenge Rating: 8 Poisonous Blood (Ex): The blood of a greater medusa is highly toxic, even after it is dead. Fortitude save (DC 15) or initial 1d6 temporary Strength damage and secondary 2d6 temporary Strength damage. See this thread: http://boards1.wizards.com/printthread.php?t=469465&page=5&pp=30 Darknecromancer posted his version of the Greater Medusa there and it's pretty good. Also, I found this 8th level spell: http://talespinner.proboards74.com/index.cgi?board=darkmagic&action=display&thread=1137912503 Nebuchzar's Horrible Transformation (Alteration, Necromancy) Range: 0 Components: V,M Duration: 1 round/3 levels Casting Time: 8 Area of Effect: The Caster Saving Throw: Special This powerful spell was used by the necromancer Nebuchzar. With it he could deplete the numbers in a small army to virtually zero. When the spell is cast, the face of the caster assumes a most horrible and bestial form. Any living and sentient creature is susceptible to the effects of this spell. Those who gaze upon the face of the caster must immediately save vs. death. Those who fail are instantly killed, their faces twisted in horror, and cannot be resurrected through any means but divine intervention or a wish spell. Those whose saves succeed still suffer 3-18 damage. The maximum range for this spell is the minimum range which the victim can distinguish detail visually (see DMG). Those who are killed in this method can be brought back as ju-ju zombies by the caster. This is only possible if the victim has been dead for a maximum of 1 day per three caster levels. While this spell is in effect the caster may not cast any spells that require verbal components. The material components for this spell are an eye from a catoblepas and some blood from a greater medusa. They are consumed during the casting. Debby |
