| red5angel07-17-06, 10:06 AM | Hey everyone, I'm gathering a group for gaming and I'd like to run some classic D&D adventures and wanted to get some suggestions. I'm looking for adventures that have it all, monsters, roleplaying, traps and treasure! Those that use the more classic monsters are better but I don't mind using the newer stuff either, we're just putting together a gaming group that wants to keep things simple. I'll be starting the players out at 1st level but suggestions for adventures at any level would be appreciated! Thanks! |
| Milo HoBo07-17-06, 10:42 AM | A dragon in a dungeon, that should be a good place to start. An undead mob being controled by an evil cleric between said dragon and adventurers. A gauth beholder seems nice too. Saving a princess who is held captive by said dragon. RP to get the information or more information. Traps. Anyone else have ideas? |

| Grandpa Gamer07-17-06, 11:27 PM | "An old friend walks up to you at the local tavern, and offers to buy you a drink . . ." |
| trolloc07-17-06, 11:50 PM | White Plume Mountain (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20051207a) and Tomb of Horrors (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20051031a). i think people considers these classic. THANK YOU WotC for the free conversion. Can't wait to run them. edit: oh right you were looking for suggestions, not full adventure. |
| Shadow Weaver07-17-06, 11:57 PM | 'The Keep on the Border Lands' is as classic as it gets in my mind. It's usually pretyt cheap when it shows up in second hand bookstores, but would require some heavy conversion work. |
| Rickiel07-18-06, 12:35 AM | And lo! Our heros set off on their quest! To reach the castle upon those most perilous peaks of Dread Rim Range. And upon coming to the great Hell Lake, a fiery chasm filled with molten lava, they shall find a castle suspended above the inferno by great chains. And within the highest tower, lies a slumbering princess. And when she is found by her champion, the curse shall be broken by true-love's first kiss. Of course naturally there's a dragon in the castle. |
| KingGolem07-18-06, 01:05 AM | I was the dm for the adventures of a 5th level kobold cleric of Kurtuulmak named Ulhar Kethend. For his first adventure, a construction crew in a city was digging a ditch, or a moat or whatever. As the dug, they opened a long forgotten tomb full of zombies and skeletons. I also used an encounter from the dmg. A pile of refuse in the center of a room with a monstrous spider lurking above. He makes a spot check and notices shiny things in the pile, and the spider above. He kills the spider and finds a pretty zircon. :) But anyway, you want to focus on a dungeon that works with all of the pcs abilities. You might want to use a "boss" monster. A good boss monster might be a baby dragon of some kind, who has recently form his/her lair and glittering hoard. |
| Lord Gwydion07-18-06, 02:38 AM | One of the PCs inherits what he assumes to be a minor but useful magic item from his eccentric uncle. Turns out, it's a powerful evil artifact that the forces of evil are looking for, and the PCs need to find a way to destroy it before the badguys get it. Adventures don't get more classic than that...unless: The PCs decide to raid the tower of the evil wizard in the middle of the city by climbing to the top and fighting their way down, encountering a captured extraplanar entity of great knowledge that will impart this knowledge (along with the best way to kill the wizard and get his stuff) in exchange for killing said extraplanar entity to put it out of its misery. |
| SeptimusMagistos07-18-06, 03:54 PM | Try "Beyond the Crystal Cave". It's unforgettable. |
| red5angel07-18-06, 04:59 PM | thanks for your suggestions guys! I'll have to see what they've converted for free so far and hit the game store here soon to see what else is lying around! Jason |

As far as I remember, I think it was a TPK. Some Conan stories make for excellent RPG-adventures. And in the swedish Conan comic book they ran two pages just about roleplaying for a while in the early nineties. Pretty good general articles too. |
| E. Ravenwood07-18-06, 09:01 PM | Check out the "1001 Adventuring Hooks" thread I started. I don't know how to put in a hyperlink or whatever to get you there, but its last post was around June 18th or so. Sorry if this is no help, but there are about 80 or so ideas for all levels and groups there, many of which I found to be extremely enjoyable. |
| Stardrake07-18-06, 09:44 PM | For new but "old-style" adventures, check out the Dungeon Crawl Classics series from Goodman Games. They even ratehr look like old 1e AD&D modules (right down to often having Erol Otus covers!) They have adventures from 0-level (yes, zero-level) on up to 20th, including at least one book of related adventures that can form the skeleton of a campaign. I'm running one now (The Sunless Garden, for 6-8th level) and we're all having a grand time. |
