| TokTok06-03-05, 12:26 PM | With my players going through various places (They've been in a city that's like in Egypt, and a casual Medieval one) I wanted to make something that'd be a kick for any undead/necromancy fanatic. So here's the case: -I want people to make an Undead NPC which they like. It's allowed to be anything. From a little undead girl selling halloween candy to a skeleton druid. Think Nightmare Before Christmas, and anything else you like. I'm curious about what others can think of, to make original Undead NPC's for anyone to use. Imagine a spooked town with all kinds of friendly/friendlier Undead welcoming your NPC's. (Not for the Paladins under us, that'd be just a slaughterfest.) |
| Azar the Prince06-03-05, 12:34 PM | A Human turn Vampire Bard that sings lamenting songs and dominates unappreciative or poorly paying customers and proceeds to drain them of their blood, wether he is hungry or not. |
| Airsucker06-03-05, 12:37 PM | Do you want stats and such? It'd be a good flex of developing DM muscles to work on some NPCs since I decided to run modules for a while. Maybe I'll have do play around with it a bit this weekend, since I've got time off anyway. |

Maybe I'll have do play around with it a bit this weekend, since I've got time off anyway. Stats would be perfect! Especially considering not many people are actually friendly against undead. |
| Illion the Red06-03-05, 12:45 PM | Here's a little snippet of something from the campaign I am just starting up. I just hope none of my players are reading this :P Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid Quilted Armor Creatures: 4 strange undead wearing plaid quilted armor - The undead are actually vampire spawn who were abandoned by their creator because they couldn't let go of their obsession with the spear. Situation: 4 "men" continually argue and struggle over a glowing spear. Each refuses to let go until the other one does. They have been fighting over this cursed spear for nearly a century. Items: The Spear of Greed - touching the spear creates a complete and overwhelming greed for all things - wealth, magic, and especially the spear itself. This is the spear's only magic property. DC 20 will to resist compulsion. |
| Prgrmr@wrk06-03-05, 04:31 PM | What about ex-undead? I've always thought a cool BBEG would be a lich that had been killed (perhaps by the PCs), and resurrected (which would make him mortal again). Of course, he'd be crazy and want his powers back, at any cost. |
| Jayr06-03-05, 07:16 PM | I'm not sure what CR you're looking for, but how about this? Kiriukie: female shadow Sorcerer 2; CR 4; Medium undead (incorporeal); HD 5d12; hp 32; Init +4; Spd fly 40 ft. (good) (8 squares); AC 18 (touch 15, flat-footed 14); BAB +2; Grap --; Atk incorporeal touch +6 melee touch (1d6 Str); SA create spawn, strength damage; SQ darkvision 60 ft., incorporeal traits, summon familiar, +2 turn resistance, undead traits; AL CG; SV Fort +1, Ref +5, Will +8; Str --, Dex 18, Con --, Int 9, Wis 14, Cha 18. Skills and Feats: Hide +10*, Listen +10, Spellcraft +4, Spot +2; Dodge, Spell Focus (illusion). Kiriukie has a +2 racial bonus on Listen and Spot checks and a +4 racial bonus on Search checks. *Kirukie gains a +4 racial bonus on Hide checks in areas of shadowy illumination. In brightly lit areas, she takes a –4 penalty on Hide checks. Spells Known (cast 6/5): 0th-- dancing lights, detect magic, ghost sound, mage hand, and prestidigitation; 1st-- cause fear and silent image. Caster level 2nd; save DC 14 + spell level, 15 + spell level for illusions. Strength Damage (Su): Kiriukie's deals 1d6 points of Strength damage to a living foe. A creature reduced to Strength 0 by Kirukie dies. This is a negative energy effect. Create Spawn (Su): Any humanoid reduced to Strength 0 by Kiriukie becomes a shadow under her control within 1d4 rounds. Kiriukie can control up to 10 HD of spawn at a time. Kirukie (pronounced kee-ree-YOO-kee) is a mischevious spook and a wielder of illusion magic. She resembles the silhouette of a girl about ten years of age, clad in loose, flowing clothing. Although she does not speak, her body language is expressive, and she has a high-pitched, girlish giggle. Kirukie loves to frighten mortals, but after her fun is over she usually introduces herself and tries to befriend them, avoiding their touch. Kirukie avoids combat, fleeing if possible. If forced into a battle, she usually targets the weaker-looking fighters with cause fear spells. Once all her 1st-level spells are used for the day, she goes into battle with her incorporeal touch, but she prefers not to use such methods. |
| TokTok06-04-05, 01:03 PM | Jayr: I really like the idea behind that one. The idea of a young girl is sure to make a suprise for players. |

Maybe your players wouldn't even pickup on something like that but I did, just thought I'd let you know. Not judging you or anything. |
| Jayr06-04-05, 03:30 PM | Thanks, Tok-Tok! I was a little bored, so I made another NPC. This one is a shopkeeper, because every town needs a magic shop :D Of course, because I don't know what level your PCs are I can't really know what level of shopkeeper to make, but I'll try anyhow! Renrith: male wraith Wizard 6; CR 8; Medium undead (incorporeal); HD 11d12; 72 hp; Init. +9; Spd 30 ft., fly 60 ft. (good); AC 18 (touch 18, flat-footed 13); BAB +5; Grap --; Atk incorporeal touch +10 (1d4 and 1d6 Con drain); SA constitution drain, create spawn; SQ daylight powerlessness, incorporeal traits, summon familiar, +2 turn resistance, undead, unnatural aura; AL CN; SV Fort +3, Ref +3, Will +9; Str --, Dex 20, Con --, Int 20, Wis 17, Cha 16. Skills and Feats: Appraise +10, Concentration +8, Craft (alchemy) +15, Craft (poisonmaking) +15, Knowledge (arcana) +15, Listen +14, Spellcraft +15, Spot +14; Craft Wand, Craft Wondrous Item, Ghostly Grasp (Libris Mortis; allows incorporeal creatures to use corporeal objects; essential to character), Improved Initiative, Scribe Scroll 1. Possessions: Masterwork light crossbow, 10 bolts, goggles of minute seeing, hand of the mage, wand of summon undead I. Spells Prepared (4/5/4/3): 0th-- detect magic (x2), prestidigitation, read magic; 1st-- comprehend languages, identify (x2), unseen servant, summon undead I (Libris Mortis; replace with summon monster I); 2nd-- fox's cunning, scare, suggestion, summon undead II (Libris Mortis; replace with summon monster II); 3rd-- dispel magic, shrink item, summon undead III (Libris Mortis; replace with summon monster III). Spellbook: As above plus 0th-- all; 1st-- cause fear, mage armor, magic missile, ray of enfeeblement, Tenser's floating disk; 3rd-- slow. Constitution Drain (Su): Living creatures hit by Renrith’s incorporeal touch attack must succeed on a DC 15 Fortitude save or take 1d6 points of Constitution drain. The save DC is Charisma-based. On each such successful attack, Renrith gains 5 temporary hit points. Create Spawn (Su): Any humanoid slain by Renrith becomes a wraith under his control in 1d4 rounds. Renrith can control up to 22 HD of spawn at a time. Daylight Powerlessness (Ex): Renrith is utterly powerless in natural sunlight (not merely a daylight spell) and flees from it. Unnatural Aura (Su): Animals, whether wild or domesticated, can sense Renrith's unnatural presence at a distance of 30 feet. They will not willingly approach nearer than that and panic if forced to do so; they remain panicked as long as they are within that range.Renrith, a wraith wizard, is known througout the undead town for his skill at alchemy. He runs a shop that sells miscellaneous magic items, alchemical items, and poisons. Renrith's arcane laboratory is located in the back of a tavern called the Red Bat. Most days he can be found loitering around the Red Bat, avoiding the sunlight. He operates his shop out of a booth in the tavern; customers simply choose an item in Renrith's catalogue, pay half of the cost up front for materials, and return in a certain amount of time to pick up the finished item. Some items can be retrieved in a few minutes, while others take days to complete. When it comes to nonmagical items, Renrith has a fair stock. At any given time he has five flasks each of acid and alchemist's fire, ten smokesticks, and two each of tanglefoot bags and thunderstones available. He stocks five doses each of oil of taggit, lich dust, and arsenic, gearing his inventory more towards assassination than towards combative use. If using the Libris Mortis he also sells bloodwine and gravedust behind the counter, but he must contact a cleric to make them, taking a week or more. On comission, he can create any alchemical item with a Craft (alchemy) DC of 25 or less, and all poisons except for black lotus extract and dragon bile. In its stock of magic items Renrith's shop has a wand of magic missile and a wand of summon undead I (Libris Mortis; replace with wand of summon monster I) on sale, but any other items must be comissioned from him. Renith can craft +1 and +2 weapons and armor, armor of shadow, screaming bolts, lesser bracers of archery, gloves of storing, hands of the mage, harps of charming, helms of comprehending languages and reading magic, pipes of haunting, pipes of sounding, and stones of weight. He can also create scrolls or wands of any spell he knows. Renrith is willing to create any weapon, armor, wand, or scroll with a caster level of 6th or lower as long as he is supplied with a wand or an appropriate number of scrolls for the spell. |

If they amuse him and figure out his guise, he might become friendly, especially with any attractive female of the party. If the PCs get on with him rather well, probably if they're the thieving sort, he'll show them routes and ways to get at other peoples treasure. |

| Skeane06-05-05, 11:11 PM | What about Morty, the cranky old toothless fisherman-- turned vampire? He could be forever be gumming up the locals necks, annoying citizens with his vampire drool, and harping on about what things were like "when he was alive". |
| Illion the Red06-06-05, 09:03 AM | Unless I'm mistaken undead (a.k.a. vampire spawn) are immune to enchantments, such as compulsion effects, and thus wouldn't be fighting over such a spear. Maybe your players wouldn't even pickup on something like that but I did, just thought I'd let you know. Not judging you or anything. Good point. I forget about things like that since we have a long-standing houserule running that intelligent undead can be affected by mind-influencing effects. |
