Greetings gamers,
First time post.
I love the whole world of D+D and just made an Umberhulk t-shirt for myself.
I'm not a gamer, used to be a casual Shadowrun player a long time ago but I've recently found reason to find you D+D heads and ask a question.
I hope you people can help me out with insightfull, and accurate responses.
There is a gentleman from New Zealand who goes by the name of Dylan Horrocks.
He draws an excellent indie comic book called Hicksville.I highly recommend it.
I'ts pretty much the opposite of D+D but still a great example of comics as literature. He's a big D+D fan and supposedly his next work will be about gaming itself.
He wrote a fascinating essay about world building.
http://www.hicksville.co.nz/PerfectPlanet.htm
In it he goes on to talk of the necessary need to create a world when writing and drawing comics.
The essay is pretty good and interesting at that, but not for actually how to make worlds effectivley.
In it he recommends the World Builders Guide.
Im currently getting back into drawing comics full time and was wondering what you guys think of this book as a tool for someone who is creating a comics/fantasy/modern world of their own. So:
All rules, numbers and non-essential aspects aside, how would you say this book fares for a comics artist(funny, indy comics) trying to create a truly kickass world.
Thanks for your time,i'd love to read your thoughts on the world building book in addition to tips or any advice you might have on creating a universe of my own.

First of all, I would like to say that this is a well-written post, and that's not what we usually see from the new people on these boards. I wish that more newbies were like you.

I can't help you with advice about the World Builder's Guide, since I don't have it, but this thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?threadid=51087) might be useful. Also, If you want any help with the specifics of your world, you can post a thread in the homebrew board.

His Majesty,
Thanks for the kind words.
The link you posted was most definatly useful. Thanks.
I've been asking around about the concept of worldbuilders guide as fiction guide
and nobody seems to even use that book.
I would think more people here would use it and post their thoughts seeing as how gamers tend to be good writers and creators.
Does anyone know of other resources for making worlds other than World Builders Guide?

I remembered seeing a thread on this, and a quick search has proved that I was right.
<LINK> (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?threadid=109406)

This thread (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?threadid=277010) is by a guy who's apparently using the World Builder's Guide to build his world. He's only descibed his use of it in the building of the cosmology, however, so you'd better PM him if you want more specific advice (There's a little "PM" button on the bottom of each post).
