| mhosk12-10-04, 02:07 AM | I just recently re-sparked an intrest in Rpgs again, and everywhere I look I see the D20 system and have a couple of questions. 1. Does the system work? Sounds like a great idea. 2.Do u need the PHB,and DMG to use the D20 system, or are they just for playing the D&D campaign settings? IE:Warcraft Rpg, Ebberon etc.. I would appreciate any feedback to help with my decision to return to great world of RPGs or stay a miniatures gamer. Thanks |

THat said, I strongly suggest you buy the books, since the pics and flaver is worth it, and will make sure more books come out. |

If you like a rules heavy, detailed and fairly reliable system then D&D is great. 2.Do u need the PHB,and DMG to use the D20 system, or are they just for playing the D&D campaign settings? IE:Warcraft Rpg, Ebberon etc.. Yes and no. For WotC setting, such as Forgotten Realms, Eberron and such you'll probably want to pick up all the three core books (PHB, DMG, MM) and most likely quite a few others besides those. If you are more interested in a 3rd party d20 setting there are alternative PHBs, DMGs and loads of MMs. However you'll still probably need the core books and that is when the SRD 3.5 (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srd35) is your friend :). If you have a laptop then you probably don't need to buy the actual books, but simply get the rtf-files, go through them and then get the d20 books you are really interested in. The core books have a lot of fluff that is usually not very useful in d20 products, especially if we are talking about D20 Modern, so IMO the actual game mechanics are more important. The SRD 3.5 gives you the crunch without any cost or bother, so if you don't mind reading off a computer screen that would be my choice. |

If you can afford them, the three core books: Players Handbook, Dungeon Masters Guide, and Monster Manual would set you up sweet. Like I said the SRD is great but the convenience of having the books at hand is tops. |
