What alignment do you find yourself playing?

Me, I usually play NG or CN. Lately I've been playing LE and I enjoy it. My group tends to veer towards neutrality more than anything, it's hard to justify a LG graverobber. :D

10-04-04, 03:20 AM Sigh. I'm usually the LN clear-thinking, even-minded one in the group. Everyone else plays Chaotic characters and it's really obnoxious to find reasons to go do what they want to do. I've never played a chaotic character well enough to stick with it. Order is my style.

I like LN for my creepy characters, and CN for my anti-heroes. Always fun having someone who seeks to free the slaves but is willing to kill a slave to get to a slaver. CG is my favorite for heroes, but they tend to be CN(G) with me. Good guys bug me.

10-04-04, 03:50 AM Good guys bug me too. There's a fine line between "Good" and "Fair." LN is fair. We have a code, and it's too complex to write sometimes.

I love LN because it can be creepy, valiant, authority, and snivelling. Of course, all alignments can do this, but LN fits into each one pretty well. Snivelling guard, Creepy wizard, Valiant knight, and fair patriarch.

10-04-04, 03:23 PM I find my players mostly play neutral or good alignments (my current group has 2 N, a NG and a CG).

personaly I enjoy playing characters of all alignments... so when I choose an alingment for my character I do it early on in the creation process, and work alot of his other characteristics around that alingments philosophy. I do tend to play neutral or good characters most often simply because the person who DM's most often when I do not doesn't like having evil PCs in the game.

recent characters I have played include:

Brebendorf Flewt, The Hammer of Justice (LG male gnome paladin).
"Stone" (CE male feral half-dragon minotaur barbarian in an "anything goes game")
Baldo Buggerwell (CG male halfling barbarion/fighter)
Cantechere of the yellow robes (LN male human Abjurer)

10-04-04, 03:27 PM It all depends on the character. My current guy is Lawful Good. My last one was Lawful Neutral. Before him it was Chaotic Good. It all just depends on the guy I'm playing.

10-04-04, 04:30 PM In our roleplaying groups everyone prefers to play neutral, at least before...but now one in our group plays an annoying CE rogue (the DM changed his alignment because of one too many cold murders), and another one plays a LG half-dragon sorcerer paladin (this guy just CAN'T play anything else than LG, and so the DM changed his alignment too). I stick to true neutral though. Don't care 'bout anything nor anyone but myself.

Sound like Neutral evil to me. TN is about doing the right thing not about being

10-04-04, 05:39 PM Most players I've encountered insist on playing CG simply because they've been told its the best alignment and seem to think if thats their alignment they can murder and steal peoples things and whatever...

Personally I ussually play NG as that is how I am in real life. Recently I played a LG Paladin and I wasn't as good as roleplaying him as I would normally be roleplaying a character, guess LG doesn't suit me. For my next two characters I'll be playing CN and then CG (to show 'em how to play it right).

10-04-04, 11:47 PM I also agree that the alignment really depends on the character, I don't think there is a "best" alignment or whatever. I don't know where the CG = Murder/Steal thing came from though, maybe it's just me, but I always associated CG with, say, Han Solo... more a rebel than anything else.

Right now in my group we are CG, NG, N, and CN... I guess Neutral is kinda popular... I tend to lean toward the good side, though. LG is difficult to play I think. I am CG right now and it's kinda fun.

I guess I do find it annoying sometimes when everyone just wants to be neutral because they "can't decide" or something... I mean, I don't have a problem with it if you are good at roleplaying neutral. But some people are neutral not for the roleplaying or the character creation aspect of it but because they can't commit to either good or evil... that's annoying... :rolleyes:

10-04-04, 11:55 PM A lot of my players tend to play chaotic alignments, mostly neutral. This is because they view themselves as self-styled rebels who do what they want to when they want to, and do good or evil whenever it'll get them money.

I myself am no so deluded. I play LE. I know that I'm a selfish cruel bastard and I exercise my right ot play one.

I myself like to play :devil: NE because i like to play characters that do stuff for money and care about noone but themselves. But I can still be in the party with other characters without killing them while they sleep.

What alignment do my players usually "choose"?
Whatever fits their perception of the character.
Class requirements dictate first. The monk in their party is lawful neutral. The druid chose neutral. The cleric chose his deity's alignment (lawful good).
Image often dictates second. The rogue players chose chaotic good. The druid chose neutral. The fighter wizard chose lawful neutral, because of backstory.

What alignment do my players "play"?
I assign alignment based on play, regardless of what the players chose.
The monk is still lawful neutral. He has been "in character" since day one.
The gnome rogue is chaotic neutral (bordering on neutral evil).
The fighter wizard is neutral.
The druid is chaotic neutral (bordering on chaotic evil).
The half-orc rogue is neutral good.
The cleric is neutral good (with lawful tendencies).

Inter-party rivalry is fairly common, and when I "annouce" alignment shifts every three levels, half the players try to adjust their role-playing to "correct" the shift, while the ther half try to further emphasize the shift.

10-05-04, 10:28 AM our group finally gave up on alignments although i find it easy to use an alignment as a template which is usually a mixture of chaotic good and neutral.

I usually end up playing either LN (soldier or knight) or NG (standard good guy hero).

10-07-04, 01:50 PM I tend to play NG or CG, though I like the mindset of CN a lot. If I'm evil I like the LG dominator type. All my regular players play CN because they think "well, it lets me do whatever I want," but they wind up playing NE or CE, and it annoys me.

10-07-04, 05:10 PM Well, most of my group goes CN unless they have to have a certain alignment for their class. I just got LN samurai. I wouldnt normally choose lawful because its my instinct to shy away from anything that limits my options but I had to and actually I seem to be able to RP it well.

Speaking of lawful, if your master orders you to steal something but the things that you have to take are important to keeping down the ammount of crime in a city, what's a LN samurai to do?

10-07-04, 05:24 PM As far as my players are concerned I would have to say Chaotic Greedy, with the occasionaly splash of self sacrifice, so they can pretend they're choatic good. I don't really feel like changing their alignments, because usually this just means more trouble for myself.

If you're talking about me, really there is only one alignment I can't play effectively,True Neutral. However I have been banned from playing evil characters in most campignes as I usualy play them all too well. :weep:
