If you like versatility, I'd get it. *But then, I buy every book that comes out...I have no life :weep: * But yeah, it's for sure a nice book to have at your disposal. If you have the cash to spare, I'd recommend adding it to your collection.

It has three new classes. The ninja, scout, and spellthief. New feats to go along with these, as well as some that'll help further customize any rogue-ish type. A few new skills. And a whole gob of new ways to use old skills. Like, using Hiding to 'shadow' someone in an urban scenario. I bought it for someone for a gift, they loved it.
I'd have to give it a B+ :D
(very high in my ,sometimes, overly critical rating scale)
Edit: oh, forgot. There are a bunch of prestige classes, too. Like, Street Fighter.

Some of the classes in there are insane, weird, or just cheesy. The ninja is not at all needed, you can do that with a rogue and a few potions, the Scout is a bit insane for the skirmish deal, and spellthief has about the most flavor out of any of the classes in there, and that's not saying much as the class is kinda pathetic.

Most of the classes are just bonuses to stats that you could have gotten either with feats or normal classes, some of them like the "Exemplar" is just plain stupid and useless, it's a pure skill bonus class, I'm sorry but a +60 to about 9 skills is not needed and is quite broken at 15th level. Daggerspell Mage and Daggerspell shaper is alright, bloodhound is meh, Beast master basically brings back the druid of 3.0, multiple animal companions, animal lord is now crappy compared to the, IMO, -well done- version in 3.0, ghost faced killer is also not needed, it's merely a prestige class for one class as it is, dread pirate is also a meh and it's entry requirements are absurd (must own 10,000 gold ship, stolen or bought doesn't matter), Shadowbane Stalker and Shadowbane Inquisitor, really? Who needs a paladin/rogue? Nightsong infiltrator and Nightsong enforcer are actually pretty cool, thief acrobat is useless, vigilante doesn't have great abilities, some of them don't even work with what a vigilante is (Speak with dead 1/day, wow that is so batman), fochlucan lyrist is an oxymoron, druids and bards are completely separate characters, they don't clash at all, tempest is broken (a mere 5 level class that once you master it and if you take the feat oversized 2 weapon fighting, you gain -0/-0 to double warhammer attacks if you wanted), street fighter can be done with a basic fighter just as easily, master of many forms is a severely morphed 3.0 shifter, Maester is meh, it can be done with a wizard item crafter too, and the "Ollam" I don't think they were even trying to come up with something decent.

Some of the feats are alright, but a good half of them can be attained through basic class levels (EX- Brachiation allows you to move through dense forestry without reduced speed, so does woodland stride as a low level druid), the magic items are ok, the spells however are pretty cool, I like them, Arrow Storm, a 4th level ranger spell = super rapid shot, it's actually pretty cool.

In any case, the book is a "meh" altogether, if you get it, get it from amazon, it's not worth it at a borders price, amazon has it for like 17 bucks rather than the normal 30.

A little bit off-topic:): Isen't there a book with samurais and ninja's and types like that. Just in one book?

Oriental Adventures has a lot of things, but (wierdly enough) ninjas aren't one of them. :uh-huh:
Does have Samurais though, a few of them. *going from memory atm*

I'd say that CAdv has probably the best set of new base classes out of the Completes. They're not very good on the power scale, but they're at least interesting. (The Warlock from CArc is clearly the coolest new base class, but it's in less than impressive company.) Prestige classes are a mixed bag. There are some really nice ones (Thief-Acrobat's a favorite, and the Daggerspell classes aren't too shabby), some that are good for flavor and not necessarily impressive for mechanics (Dread Pirate, Vigiliante), and there are some that are pretty much just trash across the board (Streetfighter). I really can't see ever using about half of the PrCs, even as one-time NPCs.

Skills and feats... are okay. There are some expanded uses for skills, which are great for a lot of players. Sense Motive can be used to size up an opponent, for example, and Craft (Poison) gets a great resource. The feats kind of drag it down, though. There are certainly some gems -- Leap Attack, Extraordinary Spell Aim, and even something simple like Improved Flight (Animal Companions get feats, too, y'know) might get taken with some frequency. Bards get a couple good feats, too, but they're fairly unremarkable. Most of the feats, though, are pretty much worthless.

Items are unremarkable, but not bad. The exotic weapons are pretty pointless, though that's fairly standard for every exotic weapon that isn't called a Spiked Chain. There are some decent alchemical boosters, though I tend to question whether they're worth the trouble since their benefits are pretty tiny. I do, however, like the section devoted to masterwork musical instruments. Basically, each of the most common bardic instruments are addressed, and they all receive small bonuses (or penalties) to certain bardic songs. For example, using a masterwork drum will increase the bonus on attack rolls from Inspire Courage by 1, but will decrease the bonus versus fear and charm by 1. If you've picked up the Versatile Performer feat (in this book), your Bard can amp up his musical prowess pretty nicely depending on the situation.

Spells aren't too bad. You get a lot of Swift Action spells, which can be extremely useful for a character that picks them well. Bards and Rangers make out pretty well, with the Sor/Wiz list gaining some decent low level spells. Beware of Wraithstrike. Its balance is fairly frequently called into question -- it's pretty incredible, especially if you're a gish (or even a pseudo-gish, like the Daggerspell Mage).

The last section of the book is about organizations. I haven't used it yet, as I'm not a DM. Glancing at it, it seems... okay. Mostly just tables for random-generation purposes, it looks like. I'd tend to recommend the PHB 2 for this kind of thing, though I hear the DMG 2 might have some decent info on it as well.

Hope that helps.

Bards get a couple good feats, too, but they're fairly unremarkable. I'm quite fond of Versatile Performer, as it lets a bard be more like a real-world performer, able to do several things rather than just the single Perform I've usually seen. Other feats I've used are Devoted Performer (to make a bard/paladin) and Improved Flight (to turn a good flyer into a perfect one); I've contemplated Extra (bardic) Music, Jack of All Trades (treat all 'trained only' skills as having 1/2 point), Natural Bond (to raise the 'druid level' of a ranger for animal companion purposes), subsonics (so the bard doesn't have to make audible sounds for the special music effects to work), and tactile trapsmith (so a low-int, high-dex character can disable device and search with the better stat). I do, however, like the section devoted to masterwork musical instruments. Basically, each of the most common bardic instruments are addressed, and they all receive small bonuses (or penalties) to certain bardic songs.Me, too. I guess I'm into bards these days.

I've never felt a desire to play any of the new base classes. Regarding PrCs, I created a Nightsong Infiltrator character once, and started a Spymaster twice but wound up withdrawing from those campaigns too early to figure out how good or bad they were.

I think it's one of the best 'Complete'-Books so far. I especially liked the feats and spells, they open up lots of interesting new character concepts.
